Thanks for succinct description of this bromeliad. It’s a great plant and you have added to my enjoyment of it!

My bromeliad seems to like regular houseplant fertiliser, mixed down to 90ppm, from the crazy high figure of 400ppm. I use (growth technology) Houseplant Focus because it can be used as a foliar fertiliser too. I use the epiphyte fertiliser, from Green24, for when it's blooming. It seems to like those and the full English sun (note English, not Texan or suchlike).

This might be a silly question. I just got a bromeliad plant and it’s beautiful, the flower is flat and I’m wondering if it will open up or does the flat head stay flat? I just don’t know if it’s a different kind maybe?
@growplantwealthy48014 жыл бұрын
Graciela Roman is it is pink and flat with spider leg like green foliage, you may have a pink quill. If it is a red or orange-red flat flower you may have a variesa splenden. The flowers will stay flat shaped, be sure not to mist the flower or it may rot. Both are really beautiful, I have the pink quill bromeliad, the variesa splenden, the guzmania & the Amazonian zebra plant bromeliads. I absolutely love these plants. I research all of my plants in Google and watch videos on here to get tips on things I may not know. 🙂

S'Vari Becton thanks for replying, it’s a flat red head, somebody said that each little “spine” on the edge will have its own flower. These are beautiful plants but there are so many Different kinds I’m just not sure what I have lol

I've only had mine for about 5 months but mine has always stayed flat before it died off lol

We have two of these in the office window for the past 5-6 years. Needless to say we bought them with the spikes. Both still very much alive, somewhat paler since by the window, not one pup in all the years. So there...

Hello, I have just purchased one from IKEA! A small 5-inch pot. The sword is lying flat on the foliage. Will this correct itself? Do I need to retrain the stem?

Beautiful bromeliad !! I had one, and it was stunning. Does anybody know what bromeliads to get for outdoor gardens in the UK that grow lots of pups ? And are hardy too ? Thanks

If you can answer, I would be grateful, how much light should there be, Kelvin for guzmania and heather, and can it be watered when it is dry with heather water, or only in a tank...

Hi. I have the same bromeliad but when I bought them the flower seems not good and eventually it did not bloom and dried up. So I just cut the flower part that dried up and never had the chance to see the flower :(

Hi Nal, I have the exact same plant for over 3 years now and it's getting pretty big but it hasn't bloom again since I got it. I fed it only once a year with Bromeliad continuous slow release plant food. It's also by a window facing east with lots of light and no direct sun. I also mist it about twice a week or more since San Diego is pretty dry most of the time. Please tell me what else should I do to get it to bloom again. Thank you.

H Chau I know this is a year later, but this type of bromeliad (and I assume all of them) only flower once in their lifetime. It won't do it again. It may or may not produce new pups or baby plants that you can harvest to make a new one.

Hello, how often should I put the water into the "tank" obvsiouly its october and I live in england so its not hot. I know during hotter season I should water the tank more often but what about autumn/winter. should I let it dry out or keep it filled all the time ?
@maec80144 жыл бұрын
Same question. Im in England too and only got mine today. And also, how do we "flush" the water out?
@LISTEDGames4 жыл бұрын
@@maec8014 Its funny that most articles and videos say that but they don't actually show it. If I flush it with more water I'm afraid it'll overflow into the soil. If I tip the pot I'm afraid it'll come out of the soil since its not really that much attached to the soil since the roots are small and the soil isn't/ shouldn't be compacted.

Hi, how often do you need to water the center? 2 weeks?

I bought one of these not long ago but it is a lot smaller, it has 3 together in a 3.5x4.5 inch pot, do I need to separate them or will they be okay together in this size pot?

Out of the hundred plants I have this is the only plant I’m having trouble with . The leaves are turning yellow and curling in . I did over water when I first got it but have not watered it as much since :/ . Hope I can bring it back to its original state.

My Vriesea doesn't have striped leaves, is that normal or have I confused it with another plant? It looks like my Cyanea but with a red and orange quill instead of pink. I'm new to Bromeliads and your videos are very helpful, thank you Nell!
@hansb.jaeyni82307 жыл бұрын
Vriesea are a genus of a little over 200 plants, so there's a ton of room for variety, Vriesea splendens is just one species, and that's not counting the hybrids and cultivars. You seem to be describing V. Carinata, but it could be a similar looking species or a hybrid. It's pretty normal for Vrieseas to have unstriped leaves. Vriesea splendens has a fairly attractive inflorescence and foliage, but it's more common to see a trade-off between interesting foliage and attractive quills. Cyaneas are actually Tillandsia (though they've been pushing for a new genus to put them and a few similar species into), and Vrieseas and Tillandsia are fairly close relatives. There are actually a handful of hybrids between tillandsia and Vrieseas.

@rizwansaqib20655 жыл бұрын
Nirma Tunk Yes you can grow them in India, as long as you’re able to imitate their natural growing conditions and keeping them out of direct, scorching hot sunlight, they should do very well 🙂

What is a "growing medium"; the first rule in doing any type of "how to" video is to not assume that anyone knows what you know.
