Hola KZbinrs!
I got too many flat tires on my Xiaomi M365 recently and decided to try and fit the 10-inch ones.
I purchased the tires on AliExpress, but the seller is "no longer available"... I think you can easily find similar ones.
The music in my video is all by:

As a mountain biker who watched bikes go from 26" to 29", I opted for a 10" wheeled scooter. Larger wheels go over terrain easier. It just does not get hung up on things and this is noticeable on bikes with much larger wheels so any increase to the relatively tiny wheels of a scooter is a no brainer. You will go over rough patches and even light off road much easier as well as increased stability plus increased contact patch giving better traction. Negatives would be increased weight, not really a big deal on a scooter, and slower acceleration.
@VRMinde
@VRMinde 4 жыл бұрын
I ride 29ers myself, but I like the 8.5" on stock xiaomi more :) I will soon get some speed+power upgrade, then 10" might be better.

Threadlock on aluminum? o_O The reason it "feels faster" is because it is. The motor-controller doesn't know that you changed wheel size so basically you tricked it in to turning a 10" wheel at the same speed as the smaller 8.5" giving you a increased power output of aprx +16%

@@Shawn-yp9icwhich version of firmware did you use as a base? I normally use 1.3.8 it gives me the best riding experience. You can definitely increase your top speed with custom firmware if you change the speed limit. However, your acceleration will decrease due to larger wheels. You can balance it a bit by decreasing "motor constant power". Just don't go too crazy...

@@VRMinde yea, Im using 138 too. My flashed file is by Camil? Julian? He made the m365downg app. I have a good version of his called "firm" and it really hauls ass. What I forgot was I had blown a fuse (F2) in the controller, possibly linked to pulling that kind of performance but it made the motor cut off when I turned the headlight on. Turn light off motor worked. When I change tires I also changed controllers to fix that issue and initially forgot that changing controllers changed my firmware flash. Ive since reflashed the Julian fw and its all good, its back to being fun tocride again and beating every scooter I race. I know theres faster scooters, Dualtrons etc, but here in San Diego Ive never seen one, Limes, Birds, Lyfts, Razors, Jumps, Wheels, etc, none of them can touch me. I'll catch them, drive up, ask "is that it?" They're like, what? Is that full throttle? Yes. C-ya, and drive away.

You can actually change the tire size with custom firmware. Because the scooter expects the wheels to be smaller than they actually are, they scooter goes faster than the speed it shows on the display :)
@jonahmann
@jonahmann Жыл бұрын
It actually is going faster because you put larger wheels on. Each time the wheel spins you travel the distance of the circumference of the wheel and a larger wheel has a longer circumference. If the wheel spins withe same frequency, you cover a longer distance per time, that is to say faster. The increase in speed is directly proportional to the increase in wheel diameter. If you changed from 8.5 to 10 inch wheels, then if the dashboard reads 25km/h then you are actually traveling around 30km/h.
@VRMinde
@VRMinde Жыл бұрын
Yes, until you reach some limit potential, and this will be amps that your stock battery pack can give. Otherwise you could add a huge wheels and fly at 300km/h right? :) so, if you remove any speed limits in firmware and add a lot amps - at the end I get to the same max speed with both wheel sizes

It feels faster because it is faster! The speed is only governed in the scooter ECU by the RPM of the wheel so although the speed on the display will be the same as wheel RPM is the same, your reel speed will increase as each rotation of the wheel moves you forward further. 8.5 inch to 10 inch is a 17% increase in circumference so also a 17% increase in top speed - worth checking with a GPS though.
@VRMinde
@VRMinde 3 жыл бұрын
In theory - yes, you are right. We have had this discussion here several times now :) the speed is limited by the overall motor power because my ECU firmware is not limiting the max speed. At the end 10” is not driving faster, furthermore - it has slower acceleration if you “unlimit” the scooter on the firmware :)
@VRMinde
@VRMinde 3 жыл бұрын
@@derickrk I completely get it mate, I understand that the speed will be displayed incorrect (unless you make the adjustment in the firmware) and that controller will see it incorrect as well, therefore you will drive faster than the m365 dashboard will show you. What I am trying to tell you, that both with 8.5” and 10” wheels you will drive (for example) max 30km/h if you measure it on GPS because the scooter is simply not capable of driving faster. On 8.5” tires you will see the dashboard showing 30km/h and on 10” 27.5km/h or so. Take a gps based speed measuring app and give it a try :) In actual fact scooter with 10” tires is noticeably less capable to accelerate because of the bigger wheel mass that it has to spin (I assume) and I have measured that many times as well, at the end they reach the same max speed. 10” tires work as a “speed hack” only if your scooters’ max speed is limited by firmware to let’s say 25km/h.

Fitting bigger tires will reduce acceleration (so you might have a harder time going up a hill) but it will increase your speed.
@VRMinde
@VRMinde 4 жыл бұрын
Only if you are not riding with custom firmware and speed limit set on like 35 or 40km/h. If you are - your max speed will not increase either
@MrFastFox666
@MrFastFox666 4 жыл бұрын
@@VRMinde No, your top speed will increase because of math and physics. Let me explain. To measure the speed, your scooter uses the rotational speed of the front tire. You can verify this by spinning the front tire by hand with the scooter on (assuming yours shows the speed). To limit the speed, the firmware simply limits the maximum rotational speed of the motor (and thus, the front tire). In other words, setting a speed limit in firmware in reality sets a maximum speed on the motor RPM. Let's assume that your scooter has the speed limit set to 30 km/h, which is 8.33 m/s. The original tire has a diameter of 0.216 meters, so it has a circumference of 0.678 meters. The circumference is the distance your wheel (and thus, your scooter) will advance in one rotation of the wheel. 8.33 m/s divided by 0.678 m gives us 12.29, which means that at 30km/h, the wheels will rotate 12.29 times every second. The motor controller will allow the motor to spin at a maximum of 12.29 revolutions per second (RPS) the 10" tires have a diameter of 0.254 m, so a circumference of 0.797 meters. Remember that the circumference is the distance the wheel advances with one rotation. Recall that our maximum rotation speed is 12.29. so 12.29 x 0.797 = 9.79 m/s. That's 35 km/h. So, with 10" tires and a firmware-set speed limit of 30 km/h, your scooter will actually travel at 35 km/h. You can use a GPS to check if you don't believe me. This is also an issue with cars, since they also use the rotation speed of the wheel to determine speed. Installing a larger tire will make the speedometer read lower. For example, your speedo might read 60km/h, but you could be going 65 instead. Opposite if you install a smaller tire, you could be going 55 when your speedo reads 60. You also lose acceleration due to the larger moment arm with the larger tire. the short story is: smaller tires give you better acceleration, larger tires give you better top speed.
@VRMinde
@VRMinde 4 жыл бұрын
uRiBiTo666 mate, thanks for spending so much time to write this all up. But you miss one point. As I said, if your scooters max speed is already unlimited bythe current firmware (let’s say set to 40km/h), your actual max speed is limited by the capabities of the motor. And larger wheels will not help you to reach faster speeds. Like if your VW golf 1.6D max speed is 160km/h (as the motor can’t produce more power to go fastet), and you add larger tires, your max speed will not increase, most likely decrease. I did many tests using gps with both scooters (8.5” and 10” wheels), and on a normal flat road they reach very similar max speed (around 29/30km/h with my 88kg of body weight)
@VRMinde
@VRMinde 4 жыл бұрын
And as I stated many times, I agree that your actual speed will increase if you use stock firmware when your motor is limited by it, but not by it’s power capability.

3d printer is like 300 eur, less than the xiaomi scooter :) If you are doing different DIY stuff - you probably try to get a 3D printer at home.

what are the benefits of changing tires?
@VRMinde
@VRMinde 4 жыл бұрын
UnPureMaddness ammm... less bumpy ride, better grip on full-speed turns. Increase on max speed (only if you ride stock firmware). Easier to mount, more ground clearance :) But you will loose maneuvrability, acceleration and overall agility of the scooter. Decrease in range. No gains on max speed if you use custom firmware.

Hey, VR. How wide are the M365 motors? I'm interested in using one in another scooter, but I can't find any measurements for how wide the motor is to see if it will fit in the forks.

VRMinde do you know if there is a major difference between m265 and the pro version I’m considering buying the pro but idk if it’s worth spending that much money for slightly better specs

@@gamerush7117 No one can tell if "it is worth it" for you mate. Pro has a larger battery and a bit more powerful motor. Batteries are expensive and it is understandable it costs more. If you can - get the pro... It will go further and faster :)

VRMinde the thing is is I’m not really bothered with the speed I’m more looking for longer battery life I have looked into getting one of those custome one you can mount onto the base or neck but I’m not sure if I should spend the money

GameRush you can connect a 36v battery with a BMS in parallel without big problems for the range as well.

pressure for sure mate, you should keep it really high pressure, around 60 psi, to avoid that flat angryness, also good inner tubes make a huge diference!!! another advice, since you have the tools you should make your brake cable come on the side part of the back not on the same spot you had before, that hot glue will loose the power and you will probably end up without conector (like me :P)

João Miguel Mesquita Escobar hey mate, thanks for advices! I was thinking to change the location of that cable... but I am a bit busy with other things now. I will definitely need to work on it sooner or later. 60psi? I never inlfated tires more than it says on the tire and it says 35 🙄 maybe I should try.

João Miguel Mesquita Escobar thanks mate, I will give it a try. Interesting fact is that I get way more flats when it is raining. And now it is raining every day for the last 2 months here in DK. I did not have a single flat in summer on none of my 3 scooters :) the same goes with bikes
@alexsu6872
@alexsu6872 5 жыл бұрын
@@VRMinde Could that be because the rain cools the tire off and you are actually having lower operating tire pressure? Tires heat up during use(thats why all the tire pressure are labeled as cold tire pressure), and if it is indeed true that lower pressure can give you flat tires....... But I'm not very sure, maybe just one of the possibilities
