I used to try and force the high notes out with more air. Not only did it sound strained, I would run out of air before I got to the end of the phrase I was singing. Now, thanks to you, I know to relax and use less air. Sounds much better and I can sing higher than I used to be to. 😊 I still have a lot to learn, but I'm better than I was before discovering your channel.

I love you! I studied Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance- Classic. Many years passed and I stopped practicing. Suddenly, when I wanted to go back to singing, I was not a Soprano Coloratura anymore! 😱😳😭 I couldn’t sing! Here I was, a trained singer who couldn’t sing! To make matters worse, I went back to the university. Another university because I wanted to learn how to sing popular music. What a big mistake! I went from being a Soprano to being a Contralto (or so my instructor told me. I should have given their words more thought. I had been trained by one of the best voice professors in my country and I ‘forgot’ that I was able to sing everything. My professor had passed away and I accepted instruction from someone who made me question everything I had learned and made me feel super insecure…) with a bad voice. And to me it was hard. I have sung in the most important choruses in my country and was considered to be a really good singer. I went on to sing in church, which I loved but then stopped for reasons I am still questioning myself about. I am grateful to you. I just found you but I already have relearned many things and muscle memory has kicked in and resonance too! I am close to recreating the ring of resonance. I believe I have found my vocal coach! And I am now going to devour your content and start practicing again because something big is coming my way and I need to be ready. Thank you! Blessings.

Took opera lessons 30 years ago because I was in a rock band and didn’t want to wreck my voice (did just enough to serve that purpose but never mastered voice). I was also accepted into a collegiate vocal program but never pursued it; although a friend of mine Arthur Espiritu made a career out of it and sings at opera houses in Europe. With that being said, I still like to sing opera as a hobby and look for videos to help fill the gaps in my vocal knowledge. Well, this video right here is very very good! The narrow lips through the passaggio did the trick for me! Now, I’m gonna watch your other videos. Also, you have an amazing voice and thank you for posting your knowledge!

Yes, you do drop the jaw slightly as you ascend in ptich, but you never want to drop it too much. Generally, you do not want to drop the jaw for low notes or else the tone will spread. See my playlist on the Jaw.

How to sing really high: Step 1: make a maze out of Lego or some sort of hard toy in your room. Step 2: make sure you are singing to Chandelier by Sia or Praying by Kesha or Mariah Carey or Ariana Grande. Step 3:walk for a bit just before the high note without looking where you are going. Step 4: if you are successful, you should reach the whistle note.

Sopranos get used to thinking of middle G as being low. Keep working on the lower part of the staff down to the A below middle C. You may have lacked practice in that range.
@davidwalsh9443 жыл бұрын
Another excellent video. This way is much better than my old 'take a running start and throw myself at them' approach. In a future video would you consider addressing developing range? As I work my way up the scale in some of the exercises, I reach a point where it's no longer going well. It seems to me one has to extend the range of exercise a bit to advance capabilities but, on the other hand, at what point is one no longer developing but abusing the voice? Please keep posting. Happy New Year.
