Very clean skilled playing by Scott. Muddy's "Trouble No More", to start out, nice. An informed helpful guy . "Homewrecker" Dumble LOL. A lot of good information. I'll never play such expensive gear, but it is interesting to hear "why" certain gear is so sought after. There is a lot of hype around guitars and amps, but some of it is certainly justified. What is comes down to for me is the individual player's fingers and ears. I could not sound like Scott, no matter what gear I bought, but I can sound like "me", better than anyone else in the world and that is sufficient. :)

4:45 I've noticed the same thing for years. P90's always sound darker than I expect them too. They're still great pickups though. I've found mini-humbuckers seem to fit that sonic range that I expected p90's to fill, but without the single coil bite.

I'm so grateful I get to play a 97 ebony w/ gold trim Les Paul studio or a 94 deluxe plus Strat through a 85 Boogie S O B wood and wicker 12L speaker. It's not a 50's Paul or a Dumble. But it's pretty good quality equipment. And I had these for over 10 years. Too bad I don't play this good but I'm still trying.

On another KZbin channel, people were complaining about how ugly the reissue gold top Les Paul's are. I have no idea how they are as instruments compared to the originals, but I did point out that Mike Bloomfield, Duane Allman, and Freddie King apparently didn't give a rat's patootie about how they looked back in the day, they like them for how they sounded and played.
@AryDontSurf
@AryDontSurf 5 жыл бұрын
@@goodun6081 Well said, Bloomfield used a gold top for the whole east west album right?I play a reissue '58 Les Paul special. It's not really a looker with the TV yellow etc, but has the P90s. I just like the way their tone doesn't get muddled in with any other guitar being played at the same time.

Tasty playing and great tone from both amp/ guitar combinations. Was that Dumble built for or voiced for anyone specific? I've heard Lindley play lap steel through a Dumble from about eight feet away, I don't know how many dB's [edit!] of hearing I lost that day but I would do it all over again!

@@MrMusicguyma , yes, dB's. Good catch. "Damn you, predictive typing software!". It does appear that the software on this phone actually changes what I've typed just a few seconds after I hit the send or post arrow.... actually, I mostly use the voice to text function, instead of typing by hand, and that software absolutely positively definitely changes words on me after I've already spoken them; I have watched it happen!. PS, its actually *dB*, or possibly dB's..... I'm not sure if decibel (deciBel) is supposed to be pluralized when used in its abbreviated form. I can be just as pedantic as the next guy, perhaps more so!
@MrMusicguyma
@MrMusicguyma 5 жыл бұрын
@@goodun6081 I was a proofreader in a former life. ;) Right. dB, I should have looked it up. I have enjoyed Lindley's work for decades. He and Ry Cooder were competing teenage banjo contest champs. I am the pedantic "next guy". Cheers

@@MrMusicguyma , I have seen Lindley play a number of times over the years, including with ElRayoX many years ago, and when he was doing duets with Ry, sometimes as a trio with Ry's son Joachim, or with Flaco Jimenez. We did get to see Ry play on the Prodigal Son tour last year. I sure hope to see David play again sometime soon, he's not a young man anymore and he had a bout of tinnitus that forced him to cancel some gigs last year. Most recent shows we've seen were Tab Benoit, and Richard Thompson (solo acoustic).

I know I'm in the minority, but these sounds are not appealing to me in the least. He's an excellent player, but I would rather hear what he's playing through a dobro/National type guitar. Or a lap steel. ( Megan Lovell, David Lindley) Or a Strat. That being said, this is one of the best series on KZbin.)

The Dumble does live up to the claims of fidelity and control, simply amazing. I, however, prefer many other amps; Fender clean tones for instance. The Dumble does not seem as natural or organic as simpler amps. For jazz it’s probably ideal.

Sorry to present some inconvenient facts to the droolers here, but if you plug a used $150 Epiphone Les Paul into a small Fender tube combo and crank it, it'll sound the same. And, you'll save about a 1/4 million dollars. It's just hype, designed to get rich guys with far more money than common sense, to hand some of that money over to music industry con artists.
