Value stream map consist of three steps: Step 1. Current state map: where production plan is only one, which give aspire to WIP and non value added time. Step 2. Identifying improvement opportunity: they have used kanban card and SMED. Step 3: Future state map: Order is received by last process who will proceed the kanban card to previous process and so on. So that only required value of production happens. Stimulation and diagram helps in easy understanding. Thank sir and his team.

It is not clear if customer order comes as an aggregate or a specified sequence. If it is demanding a sequence in supply (Just in Sequence) which is more challenging, an option to address this would be giving plan only to bottle neck operation 2 and others sync with this station in replenishment or FIFO mode. This would further reduce the inventory. My two cents.

Nice video, how can we integrate the waste like transport, scrap, rework etc which are also non value added activity along with waiting for inventory. Also when we do the VSM on shop floor, the inventory level changes everyday, how can we put that to consideration. Thanks
@DrG7202145 жыл бұрын
Good Questions. To keep the video short we showed only a few cases. Certainly all wastes should be identified as improvement opportunities and acted upon. The inventory level does change day to day. The Value Stream Map is like a photograph taken on a particular day. Just like people's faces change a bit but the essence remains irrespective of when the photograph is taken, so it is with VSM. The pattern becomes evident from the current state map and that is adequate to throw up the improvement opportunities. The purpose of VSM is to find opportunities and make improvements.

Question: Hi Dr. G, excellent video by you and your students. Now I have a question about the sawtooth graph on the very bottom (where you write the value adding time and non-value adding/wait time). In some other videos, I have seen them write the value adding time on the peaks (top) and non-value adding time on the troughs (bottom). But in your diagram, the value adding time was placed on the troughs (bottom) and non-value adding time was on the peaks (top). So does it matter where we place these values/ is there an official way? Or can we do either as long as we define it?
@DrG7202144 жыл бұрын
Either way is ok. It does not matter.

Hello sir , Firstly thanks for such a good and easy explanation about VSM. I have one question regarding - implementation of VSM or Lean ideology in the project production company for example; ship or airplane building and even such job production plant. Since this type of production doesn't has any assembly line instead its one place building. Thanks in advance.
@DrG7202145 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your appreciation. Good question. In VSM we map the process sequence. It does not matter whether it is done on an assembly line or at one place as in shipbuilding. There would be parallel activities too. The VSM would look a bit more complex. What matters is operation sequence and not location. Hope it clarifies.
@vipuljhod66375 жыл бұрын
Ya, I agree it's about the sequence of operations but I have some doubts which I would be grateful if answered 😇 Firstly, could it be feasible to calculate takt time in such production process? If yes, by which value/units should it be and if no, what alternative should be taken to compete within the demand(single unit) and production time ? Secondly, Is changeover time a NVA ? And where does the changeover time is to be added in uptime or directly in total lead time ? This answers will help me in my research project for my masters so I'll be again thankful for your response.
@DrG7202145 жыл бұрын
@@vipuljhod6637 Takt time is the time given by the customer to do the job. That's all. If your customer wants one ship in 9 months then 9 months is your takt time. It is a customer demand. It has no relation to the cycle time, which is the actual time required to make the ship. If the next process is your customer, you must ask the customer process after how much time do you want my supplier process to give an output of one piece. That time will be the takt time for the supplier process. Regarding changeover time - it is an NVA because you get no ouput during that time. It is to be added to the lead time. All the best for your thesis.

Sir in pharmaceutical operation GMP playing major role where I have to finish one stage then only move on to next stage. Ex. till completion of 5lac tablets compression I should not start coating . Like every stage it will be a waiting time . Though it is order to make ( pull system) normal lead time is 60 - 90 days . But i couldn't imagine it is all wip of one batch. There are many different products in pipeline in different stages. How can we call it is NVA
