Is VTEC past its prime or do you still enjoy the good ol' Honda technology to this day? If you don't have a Honda, does your car have some form of VVT and if so, what is it?! Of course, thanks for watching and hopefully, subbing!

I still remember purchasing my first honda in 94 ..I purchased it for fuel economy and reliability as Hondas were known to be reliable at that time however I really wanted a Toyota..anyways I purchased a 92 eg sir hatch not knowing anything about this soon to be my favorite car of all time..was a whole month before the b16 announced itself mmmbaaah..I remember thinking what the hell was that ..then in 98 I traded it on a 96 jdm sir spec S prelude in pearl white ..I miss the old eg but the red top 22 prelude is now my favorite..I still own this in 2022 and low k'd..vtec in my opinion is one of the most fun engines ever built by the big h...... mmmbaaaHHH

V-Tec is dope I think it gave Hondas such a great character with such a dual personality because they got exceptional mpg when not getting up the rpm’s but screamed when you drop your lead foot! I love the screaming nature of Honda and they influenced a lot of car companies to create their own iteration of such thing to aid in fuel economy while accentuating spirited driving in higher rpms!

My first experience was actually with VVTI in the driving school Corolla. We were merging on the highway and the instuctor (a car enthusiast) said "shit more traffic than expected. You're gonna have to gun it." I gunned it and then the Corolla made a bunch of angry vvt sounds at about 4000 rpm and I laughed my ass off. Never before have I made a car produce so much sound, with so little forward momentum. 🤣

Yeah same in my Celica GT VVTI Carry’s power all the way through the rev range so you never really feel a drop off in power, and at 4k rpm the engine really comes alive. Now the 2zz, that engine is amazing. I just didn’t like on the corners, I had to fight to keep it in lift lol

@omarawilson2853
@omarawilson2853 2 жыл бұрын
@グルグ plus the 2ZZ and pretty much any Toyota engine of the time (1zz Celica owner here) could use its power better because of the VVTI technology along side lift. VVTI allowed the intake side to be adjust accordingly due to engine load and other factors like going up and downhill, where as standard VVT didn’t do this, it basically locks within two positions open or closed. That’s part of the reason the 2ZZ has such a big kick at 6k rpm. Amazing engineering on Yamaha and Toyota’s part

I remember the whole VTEC craze back in the late 90's, specifically the EM1 1st came out in the States. Being only 17yo at the time, I never really had the chance to drive anything with VTEC until around '01 when a friend let me borrow his EM1. But the 1st time I experienced it was in a '00 Prelude. It was one of the first sticks I learned to drive on. Also a 71 C10. Both of them were in horrible shape. I remember the c10's floor was rotting out of it lol. Iv always looked at it like this. Honda created this vtec monster that became such a powerful legend they didn't even have to turbo any cars even in Japan (besides 1 car) Cus Toyota and Nissan all had their valve timing stuff but they also did the turbo thing. Somehow honda didn't need the turbo cus vtec!!! 😆

So my first time in a vtec car, ( i'm 21y) i was about 14y, its was in a Completly stock exept short ram intake Acura rsx type s. I, still to this day remember when it kick in, it was my first time in a (sports) car, since then i became a die hard car/ honda fan, now i own a 2015 civic si sedan ( best looking one tbh ) and the only reason it is my last honda its because all the new one have turbo.. Don't get me wrong what is best than a turbo ? but its not the same for me, my goal is to make a drift car in the very near future with a k series in the hole, N/a or supercharge, don't want any turbo on it it ruined the vtec for me
@AlexMartini.
@AlexMartini. 2 жыл бұрын
I have a solution to this. 1. Buy an old car. 2. K series swap it. 3. add a turbo = VTEC + Turbo Best of both worlds hehe. P.S. Thanks for the comment and hopefully, sub!

6:29 my first car was a 1 owner 99 cavalier z24 5spd I got from an older woman in my family for $1100, blew the engine after about 6 weeks of banging rev limiter and doing burnouts at every stop sign and every day leaving school lol sold it for $700 knocking like a MF, bought a Ford probe for $500 and it was missing the Ford emblem on the front bumper. My friends and I thought what a great idea let's use White-Out and put the word ANAL in place of the Ford emblem. I drove the crap out of that car and loved it until I finally painted the steelies yellow (the car was black) and sold it for $1200 to some kid who's first question was "are the yellow rims still on it?" Lol good times

VANOS is cool tho. It’s basically dual VVT and gives you optimum power on the intake and exhaust, loose to my VVTI, which only optimizes the Intake side. It’s a great technology. I don’t know about this reliability tho.
