Analyzing The 100% Ending Of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time

The speedrunning community has actually documented everything about the game itself that includes: All secrets and hidden boxes, all coloured gems and their gem path secrets, all time trials (from sapphire times to the developer times), all hidden gem locations, and finally, all percentages. According to the document, sapphires don't give any percentage, but gold relics give 2%, and platinums give 2% as well. Just to highlight all percentages from the document (it's linked at the bottom): - Doing the Standard & N.Verted Levels without caring about the gems give 38% each (that's 76%). - Both Standard & N.Verted bosses give 5% each (that's 10%). - All Standard & Coloured gems give 10% in total. - Everything else gives 2% (Platinum medals from the Flashback Tapes, Gold Relics, Platinum Relics, Perfect Relics, and All N.Verted Gems). Summing these 5 up amounts to 10%. If you do the math in the list above, that will be 106% in total. With that said, for 100%, you are only obligated to run through the Standard & N.Verted levels from start to finish, getting all 228 NORMAL gems (and the coloured gems as well, of course), doing all bosses in both Normal & N.Verted, all platinum medals from the flashback tapes, and all GOLD relics. Doing these allow you to skip over the Perfect relics, Platinum relics, and N.Verted gems altogether, as these 3 are what mostly makes 106% tedious or annoying to some. One can also opt out of the Flashback Tapes altogether and instead do the Platinum relics instead; as a result, they will still get 100%. It's that lenient as long as you know what actually counts and what doesn't (only dev relics don't count to anything). Tropy fight, since they do celebrate things across the dimension before The Crate Escapes comes in and have Cortex double-cross the group altogether, while on the other hand, the 106% feels like an actual continuation to the game itself as a directed and hinted upcoming sequel in the future + it feels like they put that in as a window for maybe Beenox or VV to take that part and continue the storyline from 4 onwards. I do also think that what's mentioned in the art book about Alternate Tawna being a part of the group for good is mostly just the fact that she regretted going solo from Stowing Away, and instead opted to change her mindset and be a part of the squad alongside Dingodile, should they ever need him with something in the future. I do firmly believe that the current Tawna still exists out there, especially with her mug imprinted on a pillow in the couch that's seen in Rude Awakening's bonus near the ending platform, as well as the amount of CTR stuff that you see around starting from Bermugula's Orbit up till Food Run. It really makes you wonder how all of these things are truly connected together, especially a non-canon game like Tag Team Racing where it's not even part of the regular racing storyline at all. I think the next game will have us following the events where Uka Uka uses his knowledge and power and open up time rifts himself, since the Rift Generator was also just left where it is, which not many people seem to have pointed out. The Quantum Masks only used their powers to seal the powers rather than actually destroy the power source that's causing them (the Rift Generator). If these events do happen, then we can expect where the N. Tropy's have been sent to, as well as what actually went down in Alternate Tawna's dimension. For all we know, this can be an amazing Twinsanity reimagining, since that game also focuses on dimensional travel to some degree, and Tawna's dimension could very well be 9th dimension even if we are to apply logic where the 9th dimension is an alternate universe of the current/present dimension, the 10th dimension being a messed up flipped dimension, and the 11th dimension being everything that did happen in all dimensions, but somehow flipped backwards due to time paradoxes etc. Anything can happen, and I'm happy that they are leaving things open this way, because no matter what happens, as of 4, Uka Uka is there and he will say a few words more than just "RAAAAAAAAUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH" and some laughs x)

Brio has been defeated by Crash or Coco and he accidentally turned himself into a mutant pterodactyl and he accidentally laid an egg from his.... well........ you don't want to know what he just mentioned that disturbing word;.... and then he flew away, N. Brio has been captured, caught and caged by Ripper Roo after being mistaken for a mistaken for a flying squirrel. And N. Brio is trapped in a huge glass museum cage. But I'm sure N. Relics are defenitiv tied to 106% Had a few perfect and no time and got the 100%. Im pretty sure its all gems (normal and n.verted) and platin flashbacks, because i collected all normal and flashbacktapes and after that it made a big jump to 100% after the last n.verted gem.

I feel like this ending is true! Although it would be easy to say that it was all a dream, I'd like to think that what we see in that ending is referencing things that have yet to occur-- Cortex being there to watch Nina at the esports event and the mysterious character next to Cortex, for example. The slide with Ripper Roo, while you could argue that Roo shouldn't be there because he was cut from the game, the focus is largely on N. Brio (who may or may not be dead, but I say he probably is considering that cabinets of curiosities don't have living specimens in glass displays like that. He's probably been taxidermied tbh) and Roo being there is just a nod to his character. OR, Crash 4 might have future DLC that includes Ripper Roo and therefore validates him being there. Crash talking and having a smooth, jazzy voice is honestly great, and the idea that he might've been messing with Cortex this whole time is just hilarious. He could also be a selective mute, which is sort of canon since he HAS spoken before, but perhaps chooses not to. If I remember correctly, Link is a selective mute, and despite never speaking, actually has a voice but actively chooses not to. Finally, considering the trend of Crash never really speaking, it's likely that will still continue throughout the rest of the series' existence. We might get some moments where Crash speaks, but probably not a whole narration again LOL.

Depending on what the story of the potential Crash 5 would be, I just want Pasadena O'Possum to return in "Crash 5 and in future mainline games as a playable cowgirl adventurer. I know that she only debuted in Tag-Team Racing from 2005 and only reappeared in CTR N-F in 2019, but I want to know more about her and Ebenezer Von Clutch's origins in which if Pasadena was mutated by Dr. Cortex/how Von Clutch was created, how Pasadena and Von Clutch meet and befriended each other, and how they meet and befriended the Bandicoots and how Pasadena had a crush on Crash.

So in regards to what counts for 100% and 106%; 38% of this game goes towards beating the standard levels normally. 5% goes towards beating the bosses which adds to 43%. Now double that up and that equals to 86% which is the case for doing the same thing in N.Verted mode. You also get 10% for getting all the normal and coloured gems. Now that leaves you with 96% completion. All that leaves you now are five collectables for the rest of the game onwards, those being; N.Verted gems Platinum medals for flashback stages Gold relics Platinum relics N.Sanely perfect relics All of which adds 2% each to the percentage you have which means you only need to do two out of the five objectives in order to reach 100% so if you liked or hated some of these more then the others, you can just skimp past any three of the five you don't like and go for whichever two you do like.

As for what I think of this ending; I think it could be canon, at least what Crash says about the rest of the cast, the images and artwork shown I don't know if whether or not they accurately portray the epilogue for the cast, it could be like Ripper Roo being in one of them where they didn't get the time to pick the right ones they wanted. Crash talking could just be for the sake of a forth wall break where he doesn't talk for the overarching narrative of the game itself but rather outside of the story when it's all said and done, something I feel they could use again, though they probably could change the voice for next time just to make sure we're caught off guard again.

On the topic of reimagined elements of the old games, Crash 5 in my opinion should be the reimagining of WoC. Only this time more of the wrath of Uka Uka. Cirtex was pretty content being in that unknown location; he did wanted to be left alone after all before Uka Uka reappeared at the 106% ending. And since he & (male)N trophy left him for dead at the start of the game, he’s not going to be happy with him.

Because of the 100% ending (which I seriously think is canon to the series, just like I did for the previous games and for the Sly Cooper series), I do not really see any way that this game links to Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex. I know that Wrath of Cortex takes place after this game because the introduction for this game picks up exactly where Crash 3 left off, while Wrath of Cortex's ending takes place a long time afterward. I think we really need a new game to straighten everything out. I want this game to pick up where the 106% ending left off, and I want it to connect the 100% ending to the future titles in the series. As for anything relating to the epilogue, I know that there will be eventual disappearances in some way. I'm wondering if maybe the Quantum Masks are linked to the Elementals somehow? And the dream thing... that would probably leave me with other reasons to root for the next main series Crash game, none of which I had any time to formulate. Also, I never understood why Dr. N. Brio would be mistaken for a flying squirrel when he was a pterodactyl. Pterodactyls look nothing like flying squirrels.
