“I know if you dance with fate, then ik you’ll enhance your state”. Was this Hermes referencing the prophecy we finally saw play out at the end of get in the water/beginning of 600 Strike??? “I see you on the brink of death, I see you draw your final breath, I see a man who gets to make it home alive, but it’s no longer you”. Ody literally “dances with fate” being dragged down to his death, drawing his “final breath”, before coming out of the water a different man

I thought that line was a reference to when we first met him- dancing with fate with Circe and enhancing his state with the moly Hermes gave him lol. That makes a lot of sense though.

i know that calypso wasnt good to ody in some of the translations of the odyssey and that this song for the most part is interpreted in a way of gaslighting and the majority of toxic stuff however i also feel the pain of having someone you loved ripped away and the unrequited love dynamic as well. i by no mean condone what calypso did to ody and her trauma does not give her the right to do and act the way she does. either way i hope more people will see that she is saddened by ody leaving.

you can feel empathetic for Calypso while not condoning her actions. she, herself, is a trauma-ridden woman who's had no company since she was banished to her fate because she was the child of a titan. it's no wonder she latched onto the one person she'd ever met.
@josephperez2004Күн бұрын
Exactly. While we can condemn Calypso attempting to keep Odysseus for herself, can any of us realistically say that if we were stranded on an island alone for years, even decades, we would not unhealthily latch onto the first opportunity for social contact that washed ashore? If we want to judge her by human standards, then we must accept that humans are social creatures and we crave social attachment to remain mentally healthy. If we lack an actual person, we often attribute personalities to other things to soothe the lack of company. Think of Wilson from Castaway, a freaking volleyball that became the one thing holding together Chuck Noland's psyche. To the point he had a mental breakdown when he lost Wilson at sea. If we want to judge her by another standard, since she is a goddess/nymph, then we need to understand that means we CAN'T hold her to human standards. In this case, for example, we could compare her relationship to Odysseus much like someone who finds a lost dog. You may take care of him, look after him, even grow to love him, but he isn't yours if his original family still wants him. That doesn't make your feelings or your desire to keep him any less intense, even if it's wrong to deprive his original family of him.

Ody was getting help from Ares calling it now. Also in "Get In The Water" during Poseidon's rage vocals you can hear Polyphemus. The pulling him down i think symbolizes those he loves trying to keep him from suffering against impossible odds.

This reaction was perfect. Someone getting as hyped as I was while listening to it. Get in the Water is probably my favorite song. The way Poseidon delivers the line, is just so cold.

I love the fact that Ody was a completely broken man, and then one visit from Hermes aka (Great-grand pappy) he's ready to face the world again. Literally "Oh-oh Bring it on!"

depends on the author. Homer (at least what we have of his writings) never wrote about Calypso's fate after Odysseus left.
