Today we take a look at a bench that reminds me of some of the better benches I've reviewed including the REP Fitness FB5000 and the Griffin Competition Bench. Does Vulcan do anything to stand out or is it just more of the same?

That front foot plate and handle were absolutely positives for me, although I was a bit nervous about the metal directly on the floor in terms of rust/moisture. Great Review

Great review and I agree with the REP FITNESS material just hits perfectly. First time we tried ours it was noticeably nicer than what we had been using at our old commercial gym. I like the front foot on this and the handle design.

Love the review, especially compared to my FB-5000. What I really can't wait for, and keep refreshing my YT feed for, is your review of that Sorinex stand-alone bench rack. It looks mean and sharp as hell.

Hey Brandon, thanks for the awesome review! I had a quick question about flooring, my garage is slightly sloped. Does it matter that much? Should I build a platform and try and level it? Im not sure how big of an issue lifting on a slightly sloped ground is. Thank you again for all your awesome videos!
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't found it to be too much of an issue for me personally. You may want to check how much it's sloped and/or see if you find an issue using it as is first.

One difference I found with the Vulcan - the hole placement to attach the pad to the frame is different than the REP/Griffin benches, so if you want to add a different pad - say, a Thompson Fat Pad or either of REP/Griffin's options - you'll have to drill some new holes and use lag bolts.

Hey Brandon. Been waiting for this review. The handle for this bench since the July 2021 restock doesn’t come with knurling/texture anymore. It’s just a smooth chrome handle. I thought it was an mistake, but Vulcan customer service confirmed the handles will be smooth moving forward.

I’ve had the Rep Fitness FB-5000, Rogue flat bench and other flat benches. None of them have beat the Rogue AB 2.0. It’s just a tank and does not move or wobble while benching. Yeah it’s way more expensive than this bench but for me the functionality and build quality is worth it.
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 2 жыл бұрын
It's solid (have had mine for 6+ years). I do think the pad could be a bit improved for just benching, but hard to beat the complete package.

Is the frame compatable with the Thompson Fat Pad? If yes, what will the height be then?
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 2 жыл бұрын
You'll probably have to redrill the holes and the Thompson is .5" thicker so the height would be 17.5" which is still considered comp specs.

OK so here’s what I am curious about: How come none of these manufacturers have offered a metal plate that bolts into the underside of the post where your feet are? If there was a thin piece of steel that people could push down on it would offer 10 times the stability and not interfere with anyone’s foot placement. Does that make sense? Maybe something like a 20“ x 20“ flat steel
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 2 жыл бұрын
I think you’d have to weld it for it to be a flat sheet, which then would likely make shipping more a pain in the butt.

I’m guessing if I’m in the market for something super stable to do hip thrusts and step ups on I probably shouldn’t even consider these benches? Even the Vulcan one?
@johnwallwizards2
@johnwallwizards2 2 жыл бұрын
I have the Rep version of this type of design, and it's fine for step ups but for hip thrusts, the uneven feet mean one side gets pushed when doing it.
@kozmo7
@kozmo7 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnwallwizards2 Gotcha. I just saw Brandon had a video on the hip thruster bench that connects to the rack and he had mentioned this very issue in my comment already. Sorry Brandon! Poor guy answers every damn comment, hate to waste his time. I think the best bet is just going with a flat utility bench that has the 4 stable feet for what I’d like to do on it.
@johnwallwizards2
@johnwallwizards2 2 жыл бұрын
@@kozmo7 That probably works better. When I had a 4 post bench I was able to press it up against my rack when I did hip thrusts so both sides were pushing evenly.

Yeah def not ideal for tripod type bunches. Even if you put it against the wall you'd have to angle it so that both sides touched.
