Dr. Hahn is without a doubt the premier biblical Catholic scholar in the United States today. I read this book during RCIA ten years ago. Dr. Hahn and his wife Kimberly have been blessed on many levels over the years. Their story is life-changing! Scott Hahn would go on to become a professor of Sacred Scripture at the Franciscan University of Steubenville as well as the founder of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. Kimberly also authored one of the best resources on the problem with contraception and the Church’s position on this crucial topic: “Life Giving Love.” 😊😊😊 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

That book is almost directly responsible for me finally becoming Catholic! Interestingly I had thought to read it sone years before I did when I heard the testimony of Mexican superstar Actor Eduardo Verastegui about how it influenced his reconversion to his Faith. But an internal voice quikly shot down the idea saying "Oh it's just a book by some Catholic idolator." Of course poor Eduardo believes them because he was raised Catholic in Mexico.... Only to later find out from another Catholic friend that the Book was actually authored by a *Protestant* Convert and former Pastor😮 I couldn't get to it fast enough! And it gave me the evidence I had prayed for when I was so bewildered to find myself feeling so Peaceful and "at home" attending a Catholic Church just once. I had been so scared I actually ran away and joined a Presbyterian Church just to avoid the discomfort of thinking about the confusing experience of feeling like I "belonged" in the Catholic Church 🤔 What irony that ut was a former Presbyterian Pastor who would beckon me out of that Church and fully into Catholicism 😇😇😇 Pray every blessing for Scott and Kimberly Hahn and their kids, including the two sons who became *Priests* 🙏✝️🙏

One thing, I will say as a Convert Is that conversion Only starts with becoming Catholic. As A catholic We don't believe that it is a one time process like many protestants. We would call it continuing conversion It is a lifetime process. And my pastor has said numerous times When dismissing us from the Liturgy Let's go and do the next right thing That's where it starts. He would also say that sometimes the only Bible Anybody sees is you . He will always say We are all sinners. But we must do our best to live the faith. He said talk is Cheap he said you can tell somebody about Jesus But you must show Jesus to them. Or you will get nowhere.

@@junglequeen7386Most that go through RCIA are adults and therefore maybe more mature in their thinking and more focused. They don't just fill the parents hopes of going through confirmation or to get gifts as a young child might do, but are there to learn about the faith and read through the entire cathechism. Many cradle catholics have grown up in homes that don't practice their faith other times of the year except during Christmas and Easter. Also as someone in the process of converting to Catholicism, there is just so much of ways of devotion and catholic literature gathered (church fathers etc.) during 2000 years of church history, that it can be quite overwhelming even for an adult.

I and a nun, stood up during QnA out of a crowd of about 100 people, challenging him on his rigid idea that ONLY professing Catholics can be saved. He did not like our objections at all. I remember buying Scott Hahn's materials decades ago. He was a new convert back then. I always enjoyed learning his Protestant perspectives. Being born into a Catholic family and having gone to Catholic grammar and high schools I had very little understanding of the Protestant perspective. His books offered much insight for me. The one thing I remember most vividly about learning about Catholicism is the fact that I was always encouraged to study actual history in learning about my faith. In my 30's I attempted to learn more about the Protestant perspective by attempting to validate/verify the different Protestant perspectives and their different oppositions to the Catholic Church. Let it suffice to say that to this day I remain a Carholic and my children, having learned about their faith from me know that I was unable to verify anything Protestant. What my eldest son remembers most vividly is the fact that I was able to refute a Jehovah Witnesd who acknowledged JW was a false belief system.

The disagreement over the date of Easter, known as the Quartodeciman Controversy, arose in the 2nd century. The core issue was whether to celebrate Easter on the 14th of Nisan (the date of the Jewish Passover) as was the custom in the churches of Asia Minor, or on the following Sunday, as was the practice in Rome and other Western churches. St. Polycarp, representing the tradition of the churches in Asia Minor, adhered to the practice of celebrating Easter on the 14th of Nisan, regardless of the day of the week. This practice was believed to be handed down from the Apostle John himself. According to early Christian writings, particularly those of Irenaeus, St. Polycarp traveled to Rome and met with Pope Anicetus around AD 155 to discuss this issue. Despite their differences, they did not reach a uniform agreement. However, they parted on amicable terms, allowing each to maintain their own practice. This exemplified an early instance of diversity in unity within the Church.

I actually kind of like Dr. Hahn, but “Rome Sweet Home” has got to be one of the worst apologetics books I’ve ever read. He didn’t convert to Catholicism. He was never really Protestant from the get go. He doubted Sola Fide and Sola Scriptura even as a rabid, fundamentalist “Presbyterian.” I guess he was predestined to swim the Tiber. I hope he’s happy.

Are you sure we read the same book?! 🤪 He converted 7 years after graduating college. He graduated 1979... and was confirmed into the Catholic church in 1986. Kimberly was confirmed 1990. Scott and Kimberly clearly went to college and were protestant the entire time in college as well. So, to say he was never really protestant is a little misleading. How long does one have to be protestant to impress you with their conversion story? Since he said he started studying scriptures in his sophomore year of high school.... A minimum of 13 years was clearly not impressive enough... tough crowd!!

If that’s is the “worst” apologetics book, then I’d like to see all the better ones! 😊 It seems like every other conversion story references this book. Also, his tapes with his story helped deepen my faith 3 decades ago when I first heard him. He has been a gift to the Church.

It's NOT an apologetics book. It's a conversion story, TWO conversion stories. Maybe if you get out of your strawman you might be might see the book for what it is. Also, drop the "no true Scotsman" fallacy as well.

@@robertlehnert4148 Do you own the book? Have you read it? Do you remember any of it? To be sure, it is a conversion story, but like most conversions, we learn the REASONS why a person came to the conclusion to become a Catholic. Explaining and defending such reasons is the essence of apologetics. *Lead Kindly Light* by Dr. Thomas Howard is another great example as is *Upon this Rock* by former Baptist Steve Ray. Or *Confessions of a Megachurch Pastor* by Allen Hunt. There are so many pastors and seminary professors coming into the Catholic Church, it's hard to know what to recommend.

If you're truly on a mission to "help as many Protestants as you can", why is it that you rarely engage meaningfully with those in your comments section then? You have a golden opportunity to speak the truth in love and refute our "fallacies".

I have spent a ton of time engaging with those who disagree. On the one hand, if someone truly is open to hearing the Catholic position, I have been more than willing to hold conversations with those people. On the other hand, if someone is just being rude and hateful because I hold a different position, then I tend not to engage as much because one must be reasonable and examine the arguments being put forth. I am also a mom of 3, and I can not debate every single comment individually. Some get overlooked by mistake... others seem to get lost in the sea of responses. I do my best, but please remember you are not the only person reaching out. I may be the only one you are talking to, but I attempt to answer as many as possible, and that can be well over a thousand comments in a week. I apologize if I overlooked anything. The best thing is to post a new comment because those are easier to find on my end. God bless! 🙏

@@calledtobedifferent Well to be clear I'm certainly not obligating you to anything; _you_ are the one who makes and posts these videos, stating that you want to bring as many Protestants to Catholicism as possible. I also get the "busy life" angle and agree that it's a waste to engage hostiles. But there are a few who are not hostile. You and I (for example) were having what appeared to be a conversation that was actually worthwhile, then it just stopped after I answered three questions on the sacraments you had for me; answers I don't think you were expecting. Elsewhere I've pointed out claims you've made that misrepresent sola fide and the idea of "Protestantism" as a thing broadly, in your videos. The cheerleaders squeal with delight of course, and you rarely fail to like or respond to their comments in the very same "threads"...but little to no engagement with substance that challenges seems...shallow. Again, you owe me nothing and you're not obligated to do anything, but it's disingenuous to "heart" and comment on Catholic "atta girl" comments and then state that your purpose here is to help the lost souls like me.

@voyager7 KZbin studios make it easier for me to address new comments first. When it comes to continuing conversations, I get email notifications on every individual response to that thread so when I open that person's response it goes straight to their comment. So I may have liked /hearted their personal statement without reviewing the initial post. Also, if the comment is something I would like to look up first prior to responding or if it's an incredibly long post, I will back out and comeback later to respond... again this can cause me to forget to return or lose the comment because it then falls under the already responded comments. Once it is under that it is very hard to find again. Again... I apologize! I highly suggest reposting comments as a new comment so it will pop up again on my side as a new comment... just be sure to add that I have not responded yet! So I don't think it is possibly a question I already answered. I get multiple repeat questions, my brain struggles to keep up! 😂🙃
