If ever a season 3 is required it's this amazing show. We need to see BTK captured. Sadly it seems yet again Netflix starts something amazing but can't complete it. This is becoming a huge issue with Netflix shows.
@hermionestranger4964
@hermionestranger4964 3 жыл бұрын
Unless they're going to veer from reality or do huge time-leaps, we won't see the BTK strangler captured on the show, since the show takes place in the late 70s to early 80s, and BTK was captured in 2004/2005 lol The IRL detective, John Douglas, who is the basis for Holden Ford, had been retired for 10 years by that time. Still, he did end up interviewing BTK post-retirement and writing a book about the 30-year-long hunt in 2007, called "Inside the Mind of BTK". Still, I like the cold openings that show what the BTK is up to, and I hope they continue them or do something similar in seasons 3-5 (a total of 5 seasons had been greenlit by Netflix). I've read the book and, in all likeliness, Jim Barney will become an important character and the center of a personal crime; Gary Trapnell will be interviewed; The Unabomber, The Tylenol Murders and the Alaskan human-hunter will very likely become big plot points of upcoming seasons.

@@alwayshangry3597 Netflix themselves has stated this recently that they don't see the point in keeping shows around for more than 3 seasons, they keep Stranger Things around because of how big of a following it has gotten, and how popular the show and characters have become, outside of that show, they don't wanna continue to kay these actors and actresses money every season, so they just cancel whatever show they want to make new ones, (which is honestly stupid), instead of letting the creators of these great shows, (like Mindhunter, I'm on season 1, episode 5 and holy shit every episode just gets better!), make the stories how they want, and give there series a proper ending they just cut them off. 😠

I can't believe the interviewer didn't ask Anna more substantial questions. She hardly got questions about her character or the relationship between Wendy and the two agents. The show does a really good job of giving characters like Wendy and Debbie an important role and showing how these two brilliant women understand the world differently than the agents and how their understanding and expertise influences and challenges both Holden and Ford's view of these killers and how they understand male psychology. I would've loved to hear Anna's take on how Fincher approached this for her character and Debbie's and how he's exploring this complex intersection of gender, sexuality, power and violence.

I love how smart Anna Torv is, even when she first did Fringe interviews she always knew what she was talking about! Most celebrities don't seem to bother, especially with TV shows, like the interviewer said, some just go in and say their lines and go home, but Anna actually goes the extra mile and researches what she is pretending to do in the shows she is in! They are all really great in the show though, Cameron was frighteningly spot on with Ed Kimper! Holt though has such a ruff persona, like you can really see him as some military guy or a detective or of course a FBI agent, he really looks and acts the part very well, and again knows what he is talking about! And Jonathan is so different from his character, I was one of those who expected him to become a serial killer himself, because he really is so weird and at time creepy,lol! Can't wait until season 2, it saddens me that we will probably have to wait until 2019 to see it, I was expecting it to come around the same as season 1 did, around November, but I guess not! But as much as I want to see it, I am kind of glad they are taking their time with it, so it will be just as good as the first or maybe even better! It really came across like a really long movie, not like a TV show! Seeing as they film on location, and the fact that they do those long scenes they were talking about too, which is what they usually do with movies, not TV shows! In TV shows scenes tend to look rushed at times, a little too short to be like real life! It reminds me of a lot of the British crime dramas I have watched on Netflix actually, which tends to be more real like, because it has a more gritty way about it, there's no flinching on the really horrible parts, so you really feel sometimes like your a fly on the wall, watching something that is really happening at times! Its especially so with Mindhunter! Now I feel like rewatching it again,lol! I've already watched it a few times already,lol!

I do agree … I might say that we were spoiled by Cameron on Kemper which left me too waiting for more background on Carr. I didn't feel she didn't have enough air time though in general … just should of had more time on her relationship to the character as you rightly said. Holt fortunately didn't overplay his 'senior actor on the set' card too often … hmm maybe he did. Seems he had a role to play regarding speaking up about the creator and Netflix's … probably pre arranged, but cant blame him for that. It's an industry after all. Just sharing my opinion though.

Every character is so well-written. I am so shaken by Holden’s character because for the others, Holden is like a 5-year-old being excited/enthusiastic/distracted about everything, and the fact that others have to babysit him just shows he has so much passion. Absolutely in love with the show and characters. Great work❤️ Their resumes must be so beefed up:)

oh thank god! Finally a decent conversation about the sexual part of the show. That's such a huge part of it but obviously not appropriate for regular interviews. I'd read essays about it in this show. Also curious to the choice to make Wendy a lesbian, since the real woman was married to a man with kids. It was a good move to keep their group from getting incestuous, but to have a gay woman in the 70's when it's still considered a perversion when they're studying people with 'true' perversions is a bold choice that they really haven't touched yet.

figures, literally wrote this moments before it got to someone asking this question. Glad she seems to clearly acknowledge that part of her character and knows the background on it, and that her character is the advocate to differentiate between things that are and are not 'perverse' surrounded by a bunch of vanilla straight white men. Since they couldn't have had poc or openly out person in the FBI back then her character was a sneaky way of getting a 'minority' voice into the mix to call out the privileged cis male views

To Cameron Britton's first comment: I understand the disconnect, serial killers don't care about a human life but care about human perception. I think the connector is the need for control. Serial killers kill someone, in that way taking absolute control over their life. They can do it to whom they want and how they want to. Caring about human perception is also about control. You want to control how people perceive you, you want people to see you the way you want to be seen or interpreted.

2:20 - I feel like Britton's confusion regarding Kemper's ability to be intimate was too easily dismissed by Torv as a common bi-product of a killer's narcissism and inability and/or desire to show empathy for others. Like Britton I find it to be odd too because narcissism is commonplace within all of humanity but the sadistic, heartless, and cold-blooded murdering of strangers isn't common. I'd expect killers like Ed to always behave like monsters unfit for society but instead he can flip it on and off. That's bizarre to me and in all honesty frightening.
@underthefeather
@underthefeather 6 жыл бұрын
I think there's something to say for both viewpoints. There is definitely a contradiction between the ability to commit such horrendous crimes and being such a relatively polite communicator. But if killers like Ed would "always behave like monsters unfit for society", people might look at them differently - from the view Anna presented, he doesn't care about those people themselves, only about their respect or approval. But then a victim seems to represent a feeling or a trauma of their own (which is more important to them than the life of the actual person) and that changes how he treats them.

Maybe the intra-cerebral process which monitor ourselves socially are separate from the ones which control empathy. Understanding human emotions involves the amigdala (part of the limbic system), part of the primary motor cortex (the part which controls facial expressions) and mirror neurons primarily. Anyway emotions are seems to be driven and understood at a more ancient (developmentally speaking) level of our brain, being more calculative and rational is more specific to the neocortex. Also mulfunctions at the emotional level could explain it. Or maybe in the perception of enviorement's stimulis and to the meaning attribuited to them (meaning influenced by conditioning, which is leaning more on the "killers are formed"). Who knows? The point is that different process are involved, and these process interact with the enviroment and are everchanging in very peculiar ways. It ia very complicate matter indeed.

Groff has a big smile and loves the live audience. Awesome guy. My favorite character. The Hollywood "John Douglas". Love it! The living people who inspired this show did a great talk (Ann Burgess included of course) called "The Minds Behind Mindhunter". John Douglas was as usual, in his zone. I've read tons of books written by Ressler, Douglas, Deitz, etc. I grew up in an area late and 1970's when there were many Serials operating around the SF Bay Area. Always on the news early on, with my first memory that stayed with me was a killer they called "The Zodiac". My older sibs even made a hide and go seek game about the Zodiac getting you. My oldest brother would jump out of a tree or behind a parked car with his Halloween Dracula Cape and scare the shiza out of us. This, and other things like "close calls", made me into a lifelong reader of the BSU, Detectives, and people who are considered serial killers.

Most people would like him when theyd first meet him, and we all see that he's lucky for a person to like him right of the bat. He obviously struggles to talk to people outside of a work environment (and sometimes he still struggles there) which is clearly evident when he meets Debbie and Wendy (I totally related when he was like coffee? with Wendy lmao). I feel like it's way more likely for him to be nuerodivergent (either autism or ADD) than to have ASD or simply be a sociopath. Thanks for being the first person I've seen to share my opinion lol

The world fincher has set up here is so believable and so intriguing. He does such a great job of putting these characters in these extreme situations yet make them endlessly relatable and fascinating. It’s great stuff. Holt mccallney though. Man, put him in more stuff. Great actor. If you read any of this stuff, holt what fine job you’ve done with bill tench. Oh and Emmys better award the make up and costume departments.
