You know that was George playing his boy, Marcus Miller's SAMPLED bass tone on his keyboard synth, right?! He played Marcus' lines too. He was having fun with Marcus, pulling his leg, playing Marcus' style. It was an awesome and genius performance! I grew up on all these cats!

George and Marcus are off-the-charts when it comes to improvisation, and executing blues and bebop "licks" and phrases on the bass. And they mean every note...100% emotion! Lol They are obviously vocal, horn and keyboard ideas, but they sound so awesome when played on the bass :-)

@Antonio Stubbs Wow, glad I could help! I'm 58 and been playing since college. I have learned more bass since youtube than all the decades before it came along. We've come a long way since the days of putting the needle back on the record to replay a bass part! Have you seen the documentary Standing In The Shadows of Motown? A must-see!
@mattfoley60824 жыл бұрын
@Antonio Stubbs You owe it to yourself to do what you love. I order you to get a damn bass ASAP. My stable: 2000 Fender American Jazz Deluxe V, my go-to bass, does it all. 1996 Ernie Ball Musicman Sterling 4 string, sounds amazing, absolutely essential for Louis Johnson slapping. 2005-ish OLP 5 string. Inexpensive passive Stingray copy, same sound for a fraction of the price. Low B sounds amazing. Year unknown Ibanez SR something or other fretless 4 string. For those rare times I want a fretless. 2019 Squier Affinity PJ 4 string. Just bought on craigslist for $100. Gonna put flatwounds on her for that old school Fender precision tone. Sometimes you just gotta have it. Promise me you'll watch Standing in the shadows of Motown. You won't be disappointed, I promise you.
