You're a really good teacher mate. I'm building one of these engines to put into a mk1 golf/rabbit which I've also restored. Appreciate the time taken to make these videos 👍

Totally found your video looking for info on building my 1.8t and didn’t realize until I looked at your hoodie that your the fabricator that built my brother Jakes Vr6 intercooler piping that he rants and raves about. I’m guessing this is the motor that went in your grey Gti.

Loving these videos. Always interesting to see how someone else puts an engine together. I’m sure I’ve probably missed it but what crank are you using to give the increased stroke?
@linderpowersystems2219

It's just a crank from a 2.0l 8v

The 2.0 8v crank, is that a Bolt in or does it need some custom fab to fit in?

Hi. I'm assembling 1,8t engine and your video very helpful. Thanks. I have 1 question: you centered only one(middle) main bearing cap by taping with plastic hammer. How about other caps? I noticed, that there is no special marks, dowel pins or smth, that indicates correct cap position, and other caps may be tightened in different positions (more left or right), within the limits of the bolt looseness

Hi there, i have set of non rifled forged rods and have set of big end bearings but all of them have oil hole. Is it safe to use it even if i dont have rifle rods?

Hi Linder , great videos. Im building an 1.8T A4 very similar to yours. When you torque bearing caps to specs to measure clearance with plastigage , will one reuse the bolts? or have to use new ones since this are one time?.
@GreatLakesLogger
@GreatLakesLogger 3 жыл бұрын
If it's arp you can reuse them

Thanks for the video man...looking at the same rods you are running here. Any issues and what do you think of them at or under 500hp?
@linderpowersystems2219
@linderpowersystems2219 5 жыл бұрын
I talked about the only part I don't like about them in my video, but I have verified with ARP that the bolts are real ARP's and I verified myself that they were actually chromoly and they measured good. So I think they will be fine.

Hey I just put together my block as well. It is an AEB however and I made it to the same point you are at. I bought arp bolts for the oem rods as I am staying stock. The only torque spec I could find (from ie) said 50ft lbs for those. Well everthing still moves but it was moving alot easier with just the mains torqued up. Its almost impossible to move the crank by hand with the rod bolts tight. Im wondering if I did sonething wrong... gotta figure out the proper spec. Plastigage told me .0013 for clearance. I have a mic and telescopic gauge but the mic was scratching my crank up and the telescoping wont hold the measurement when tightened. Haha... not going so smooth here... :/ Any insight?
@conorjamesthomson
@conorjamesthomson 5 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure oem clearance was supposed to be .0008-.0024 I can move the crank with a wrench on the old crank bolt but not by hand. I remember seeing some slight rubbing on the bearings already when going over things. Hope I didnt f stuff up :/

The rings in the bores put a bit more friction on things, but you still shouldn't need a wrench to turn it... Sounds like maybe your torque is too high, I would maybe pull them back out and torque them out of the motor to see if they are round, but sounds like the torque is a bit high considering the 3/8" bolt torque on mine were 43lbft and I think the oem bolts are smaller.

any plans to dowel the crank pulley?
@linderpowersystems2219
@linderpowersystems2219 5 жыл бұрын
I hadn't planned on it considering my modest goals, but I did find today that I need to drill a dowel pin hole for the head since the 2.0 apparently has different pin locations... I know that the stock timing pulley is some crappy powdered metal thing so maybe it's worth doing. What are your thoughts?

@@linderpowersystems2219 Ive never had one work loose,but have seen a hand full that have . im convinced its from improper fitment, people seem to struggle with holding the crank or flywheel during fitment, im thinking it would make good content for others to watch,as its a popular mod
@linderpowersystems2219
@linderpowersystems2219 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah i think it's mostly from improper torquing myself.. but yeah could be good content.

@@chickenfishhybrid44 it's kind of a common problem with these motors, it seems when spinning them above stock rev limits... I really do think it's installation error, but cheap and easy insurance so why not!
