I just finished replacing the oil filter housing on a 2010 Jetta and your video was super helpful! As you mentioned, the Jetta is easier because you can leave the heat exchanger on the filter housing and deal with it on the workbench. I ended up removing the two bolts that connect the intake bracket to the block because this lets the SAI pump and related hoses float and makes it much easier to access the filter housing attachment bolts.

Fortunately, I bought my 2008 VW Rabbit from a professional mechanic who owned and maintained it for the prior 10 years. When I need jobs like this done, I hire the garage and specify that he is the only one allowed to do this job. Gotta love the plastic bits on German cars. German engineering at its best.

After several different repairs from amateurs, my bf and I are trying to figure out where the oil filter housing vent tube and the breather hose go back in. Your video is the closest thing I can find to guide us. Any advice would be appreciated!
@EuropeanAutoRepair

I think one of the breather hoses that attaches to the oil filter housing has a plastic adapter at the oil filter housing side, make sure that’s in place. going off memory but if you still have the old housing you can use that for reference

I have a 2010 2.5 VW Beetle after pressure testing to find a leak I was sure it was the Thermostat but its the Oil Cooler Housing you can squeeze the radiator hose and it comes from out between the top top bolts. No water in my oil. OEM is 560 trying to find it now, wish I could just replace those two o rings. Had the intake off in 22 minutes exactly how you took off but I removed the Fuel injection rail.

@@EuropeanAutoRepair When putting the thermostat back on the lower screw head broke off... I was pressure testing and wiggling the thermostat just to make sure and it popped off. Crazy the head of that screw actually popped off from all the torque lol.. Had to go to the junk yard and I had that intake off in less then 5 minutes.. of course lots of cutting hoses and wires with no regard for the other parts. Just for one screw

@@EuropeanAutoRepair I actually need to replace the radiator too due to a small leak so might as well do both at the same time. Would there be enough clearance without taking out intake to take the housing out if I go that way? The bumper will be out. Or would the intake still block the oil housing? Vehicle is a Mk5 Rabbit. Guessing You might’ve done this car already.

I have a 06 VW New Beetle Convertible 2.5L With Automatic transmission. 200,000 miles. I have oil in the coolant reservoir.
