Good video, only a tip for change the alternator belt tensioner you can do it without putting out alternator, turn the wheel to the left and sit in the floor between front bumper and the drivers wheel and put a 13 and put your arm through the hole between wheel and arch and you can touch the skrew, it's not much confortable but you gain a lot of time and effort. Thanks for the tip. I didn't feel comfortable doing it that way the first time as I was worried that I would not be able to judge the torque with which I'm tightening the bolt. That's one of the bolts that I don't want to come loose...

What causes the Coolant red light to flash on my Amarok 2010 TDi CdC-engine. I changed the Belt and Tensioner and then it started the overheating problem.

Thanks so much Willem for taking the time to create this very informative instructional video. it has possibly saved me over $1000. i have a question, my 1st gear and now 2nd, 3rd and reverse will not go in straight away, and at the same time as this happened the ABS sensor light came on. i have a 4wd with transfer case, 2ha model. do you think these ae related?

Nice video about rok For belt tensioner replacement you dont need to remove alternator, take the passanger wheel off and you can get to the bolt from wheel weel

Yes you can do it that way, but I like to remove the alternator to get to the bolt better to make sure I don't over tighten and over rotate the bolt. It's difficult to get the precise feel for it when you're working from the left wheel arc. That bolt needs to be rotated after being torqed . For second time use you only rotate it 45 degrees and not 90 like for first time use... So more a preference that a necesity. Removing the alternator is not that much more work than removing the wheel... But yes many people do them like that.

Nice, On what kilometers do you recommend changing this? and do you get water pump with the kit. VW did my major (timing belt) service on 120 000km and don't know if they did the water pump. The tool can be nice to do it myself!

VW normally says between 90 and 120 000km. I do mine every 90, and inspect it on 75 000. Let's hope the channel get to 1k subscribers quickly and you might just get yourself a kit...

Just look for a VW or audi crank and cam locking kit, or timing tools. They are all the same for the vw and audi diesels. Then just make sure you use the right tool as described in the video.

Dankie vir die video. Ek het n vriend met a amarok. 3 enjins later en die ding overheat nog steets. Vandag nuwe radiator in net die selfde. Als al gedoen behalwe water pomp. O en R130000 later kan dit die probleem wees. ASB help???????

Wel die waterpomp en termostaat is sekerlik die eerste twee goed wat na gekyk moet word... Die een pomp die water en die ander reguleer die vloei. Ek wonder sterk oor die tegnikus se vermoens wat R130 000 se werk doen en nog nie na 'n waterpomp gekyk het nie... Het VW die werk gedoen? Sekerlik moes iemand al daaraan gedink het om die waterpomp te check en te vervang teen R850 vir 'n nuwe vw pomp... As jy die cambelt afhaal vat dit presies nog 5 minute om die waterpomp ook te vervang... Maar ja dit kan beslis die waterpomp wees...

@@willemtreurnicht3818 more ja ek het die water pomp geruil. Dit was beter. Ons het so 80 km gery toe weer die selfde. Dit laat afkoel en in getou. Kan dit wees dat dit n inport moter was en die ou wat in gesit het , het nie n nuwe een in gesit nie. Nou het dit weer seer gekry?

THEY have a reputation for overheating with a very complex cooling system. Expensive rebuilds if your fans fail, another known problem.

Absolutely Apart from the first model V6s that had a problem with the thermostat they actually don't normally overheat... or rather I have not heard of it in South Africa, and we get proper hot summers upward of 35 degrees... The auto would be nice for town driving, and I mean for offroading and camping, it's probably the most capable double cab pickup on the market in its segment. A 25mm suspension lift does make a worlds difference though. I have fitted a VW approved Seikel Koni Raid suspension which just makes it even so much better on bad gravel roads and offroad!! So yes I would highly recommend it!!

The timing belt cover he holds at 30.50, the early Amaroks pre MY14 did not have enough shrouding around the bottom circular flange of this component and there is a possibility for pieces of the alternator belt, if it shreds, getting into the cog teeth of the timing belt making it skip timing position and causing engine damage.
