Argh, the tensioner pulley ,the demise of many an amarok engine once the serpentine belt finds the timing belt.Mine went through 3 pulleys,belts and an alternator pulley because of the shit quality of the tensioner.My brothers rok blew the engine because of it.This was before the robuster timing belt kit came out.The steel one has now been on mine for two years ,so far so good.

Update 10/04/2022 well it looks like the bearing is getting noisy in the tensioner pulley .The question is can the wheel itself be changed or do you have to replace the whole tensioner arm?

I'm surprised that the German engineers envisioned the removal of the engine mount to fit one F'ing bolt.

Well they didn't really, that's why there's different torque specs for the bolt for when you re-use it... But I get your point, it's unfortunately just one of those bolts.

I have a 2014 Amarok. I replaced the alternator and tensioner but I have a problem with my belt always breaking. Any suggestions?

Have you replaced the idler as well? Have a good look at all the pulleys and try to see where the belt gets its damage from with regular inspections. Also are you using dealership parts or alternative aftermarket? I've had a bad experience with aftermarket belt and are now back to dealer supplied parts...

I studied mechanical engineering for 3 years before I switched over and graduated as a civil engineer... So I have done my fair share... The mechanic part I learned from an early age as I grew up on a farm where my dad did all the mechanical maintenance himself... As for the rest, I try and stay current and learn everyday because I enjoy it...

Can the tensioner bolt be easily replaced? mine snapped

Think you need to remove the left side engine mounting to get a new bolt in...

@@praisemudzingwa1223 I think it was a 6pk 1440 I used in the end...it was definitely in the 1400's, not 1500's.
