The Subaru-powered Speedhunters Super Beetle - Launch Control Ep 3

VW enthusiast Adonis has spent a decade building his dream drag-racing Super Beetle. Having already owned a 1965 Beetle previously, he decided he wanted to build a faster version, after being inspired by an image of a Speed Hunters-themed Volksie. Following the advice from various builders, he decided to buy a Super Beetle to modify as it had a better chassis to handle the extra power. Adonis then opted to transplant a turbocharged Subaru EJ20 engine into his beetle - not an easy operation at all, but we're sure you'll like the end result!

Very nice - a lot of thought and work on display here. Years ago my wife and I were driving through a national park here in Oz and came up behind a slantback VW which took off. I was up for a spin so off we went. At the time I had a beautifully sorted 964 and it took some work to finally get around this guy. Later he pulled up beside me and after his wife finished beating up on him (he did have a small child in the back and we were being quite naughty), he opened the back to show a WRX motor he'd shoehorned into it. Had he had better suspension, he would have been much harder to catch. Very impressive sleeper! Of course this was back when I was young and childless... far more responsible now... ;-) Cheers and thanks for the vid - Dave

The bug looks like that thing that sits in the corner of your room or at the foot of your bed at night. Stares with it’s soulless eyes while you slumber, you can’t tell if it’s really there or not so you can’t sleep in fear of not knowing if you will make it till morning. Then it suddenly flies through the wall and disappears leaving you scared beyond words.
