FYI my buddy is installing new pans on a vert.....He told me a new technique. you use a tig welder to do the spot welds. turn over the tungsten of course have the metal clean. Hold the cup flush to the surface with the gas on. pull the trigger and wait 2 seconds. Full penetration weld with no drilling. Looks factory. must have really long tongs on your vice grip to hole the metal tightly together. Double the amperage and hold for 2 seconds depress the pedal fully.

Jason this is a good vid with Larry covering the install on the pan. You should cover the welding part of the install, the part of cutting the pan open, and the repair of the tubes inside. Most people don’t know or just won’t repair the tubes while the pans are off and this is something that should always be done. Please get a mic. The echo in Larry’s shop makes it hard to understand what’s being said. Can’t wait til the second part.

I don't think I have ever seen a pan fit that well on the first try... and those jigs confirm the fit! BTW, if anyone is interested, I have a bead blast cabinet for sale like the one in the background here, complete with the vacuum system. For some reason the paint is peeling so not as pretty but make a reasonable offer. I'm in lower Ct.

Unless You want to keep factory, You can do like I did and fabricate the floors, and in my case a good portion of the rear seat/luggage area with much heavier gauge material than the replacement floors. I used an old 275 gallon fuel tank . My floor was like this one, just the floor pretty much gone, but the outside edges were in great condition. And yes, my method added a bit more weight , but much more strength. And I got the tank for free so that was a good deal. Just had My time and welding materials in it, but I enjoy doing it, and I coated everything top and bottom with 2 coats of Herculiner . Came out great! And now back to the new wiring harness installation, which is a much less enjoyable task.

Having done one myself (Bug on a Budget: on FB) I can appreciate the care he took to accomplish the tasks. Slow and steady is my motto for everything VW related. Better to take your time with removal and installation so things go smoothly. Nothing worse than getting to the install part and things are either cut off and shouldn't be or are in the way and should be.

He does not , we have talked about it . He doesn’t have time to spend on filming , editing and uploading . Most vids take about 8 hours to produce ( from start to being live ) that’s 8 hours of labor he wouldn’t get on a car restoration.
