The key to getting that chrome bezel off is to get under the edge and slide the blade around to pop it off. I remember the first time I did this I bent mine up pretty badly. Learned my lesson going forward.
@SladesVWBeetle Жыл бұрын
Yes that’s exactly what I did. You might’ve missed that part or something. I think it looks good when they’re all cleaned up.

@19:30 No need for an old speedometer cable, just get a square drive (I think it's a #2 square bit for driving deck screws) from the big box. Just be sure to run the drill backwards.
@SladesVWBeetle Жыл бұрын
Outstanding! Thank you so much. And I will do that. Now that I’m picturing the cable in my mind, that shows you how stupid I can be. Thank you so much.

What about using a razor knife to go around the bezel ?
@SladesVWBeetle Жыл бұрын
I actually did that once before and broke the tip of it off, the razor that is. I will show putting it back together in about four days, what I do to reshape it easily. Hopefully lol

I have a super beetle and it has the fuel gauge incorporated into the speedo. If you can I would like to see how that one is done. My speedometer and odometer work and the lights on the bottom for oil, charging and turn signals but fuel not reading proper and no speedo back light.
@MJSvatos Жыл бұрын
I’m working on my 74 super. The unit is held in by tension with a rubber gasket and can be pulled out (I used a screw driver to gently pry around). There are connectors on the back bottom of the unit
@SladesVWBeetle Жыл бұрын
I probably should do the other one with the fuel gauge too. I wasn’t sure there would be that much interest. Part two of this one will be up in about three or four days. Then I will do the one with the fuel gauge very soon.

Do LED bulbs require anything different or are they just "plug and play"?
@SladesVWBeetle Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure but I will find out, you can count on it. I know with tail lights I believe you have to run some type of relay. I’m going to see with the dash bulbs if it matters.
@cliffordbombard92198 ай бұрын
Just a suggestion, to keep from messing up face and needle find a cup, bottle or container that you can sort of lock the inners into. Will protect face of gauge and also give you a support to do all your cleanings!!!
@greggbrown0 Жыл бұрын
Sure , love to see the one with the fuel gauge.

I probably should do that one also. Not a bad idea I didn’t want to bore everybody with a bunch of speedometer videos. But I guess there are many different kinds.

I used Nylon Pry Bars, to remove the chrome bezel. I got the idea from another vw yt channel.

This is the exact same one that’s in my 58 bug. I was going to rebuild it but I’m not sure on the parts or kit to order. Also the speedometer doesn’t work in the car but there was nothing inside the wire that screws in the back. I’m really at a loss for words on who worked on this car before me because WOW no 2 screws are alike on this car 😅 We tried making the deck lid sit pretty but nope again nothing matched Tried getting the single glass to stay up and on track nope! Then I was comparing the other door and they jimmy rigged the door regulator I’m trying to fix 😢 I can see why they sold it!
