Thanks for bringing out the rescue pup - our last two pups have been rescues. Sorry to hear about Mo. It's very hard to lose one of your furkids, and we've been through that sadness more than a few times.

You are a inspiration to do bodywork correctly. Repair or replace the metal then primer & paint. I personally do not like bondo. I feel it is a dirty back alley cheat to the real work needed to get sheet metal to look its best. Perhaps someday I can do my own rust-or-ation on a antique. Thank You for posting videos of your work and continued progress on all your projects.
@tiporari9 жыл бұрын
when used properly, Bondo is a useful tool. never meant to fill through holes, big dents and whatnot. It's a surfacer like primer, and the back alley hacks that use it to cover their inexperience in metalwork give it a bad name.
@Vein19869 жыл бұрын
+tiporari instead bondo, use some solder tin, back in a days it was used instead of epoxy fillers.

I've got much respect for the craftsmen who made stuff beautiful and lasting without all our modern tech. People who would start over when a paint job had orange peel. New cars look like hell right off the showroom floor. I shutter at the fools who pay 80-100k for BMW'S painted with wavy luster less paint by soulless machines. Yuck...

Agree that the windshield frame would have been a lot easier to repair for you if they would have left it alone and you could have had it from original. Turned out well though. You want to paint that bare frame before the seal goes in with some of that Rustoleum you used for the frame probably. And what a nice visit from the friends dog, when I 1st seen it thought it was a Mo flashback, but it's always sad when a animal is afraid of men, as you know one was harsh to them in the past, and you can tell a lot about a person how they treat their animals, and everyone says they want to come back as mine, so that should say a lot right there.

I enjoy all of your videos but this two part video on the that lower windshield area is the best! I get you on loving metal work but not liking the body filler part. I compare it to I like installing drywall but I HATE taping and mudding! Back in the 70's I had my '67 two door Buick painted by an old German that could barely speak English. I pointed out a rust spot on the rear deck next to the rear window and he did not want to try and replace the metal there because of the window being too close. He told me to put some "Ale" on it. I asked "Ale"? He said yes "Ale" Puzzled I asked again "Ale" like Ginger "Ale"? He looked over at his employee in disgust and the employee said to me he meant "Oil" So In that area where the windshield gasket goes and it dips down in that area do you put a coat of ale, I meant oil on that spot on the underside to help prevent rust?

Lead is heavy and very poisonous, this is from somebody who worked with it for a longtime, 20 yrs., and there is a reason it fell out of favor, as better repair materials became readily available, but the best repair is always metal..which is exactly what he did.
