Never mind that. The acceleration is impressive for such a small engine. 0-200km/h in 38 seconds (speedometer speed). A Mercedes 450 SEL 6,9 managed 0-200km/h in 36,7 seconds back in 1979. That was powered by a huge 6,9 liter V8. Sure, it was probably twice as heavy as this Golf but it was also more expensive than a Rolls Royce at the time so only the very rich could afford such performance. And 6,9 liters is 7 times(!) the displacement of this tiny 1,0 liter 3-cylinder engine. Today, 40 years later, an economy car almost anybody can afford is just slightly slower to 200km/h than a luxury Mercedes with a 6,9 liter V8 40 years ago. My point is. A lot of development has been made over 40 years. A Ferrari 308i from 1982 did 0-200km/h in 33,4 seconds.

@@leonardthesnifferwallace5073 Technology is amazing, isn't it? It seems very slow and iterative year by year, but over the span of a couple decades it's mind-blowing. If you told someone from 40 years ago that in a handful of decades a tiny engine like this could compete with a top-end Mercedes with a V8 then you would have been ridiculed and laughed at, but here we are. Of course there are still kinks to be worked out with these small but efficient engines, but that being said, what's in store in the next 50 years? Only time will tell!

ss ss Actually, no… Volkswagen realized that downsizing, as far as it has come, has started to show negative effects on emissions and fuel consumption, so they'll be back with slightly bigger engines. The 1.4 TSI was replaced by a 1.5, and the 1.0 is mainly just for city purposes and groceries etc... From the moment you take pretty much any 3 cylinder on the highway, fuel economy will drop. But 3k rpm at 150 km/h is still impressive for a 1.0 3cyl. And then again, in 2030, maybe we won't get any normal gasoline engines anymore? :(
@britishentertainment7610
@britishentertainment7610 5 жыл бұрын
@@arnemaeschaelck5012 True. They also upsized polo gti from 1.8 to 2.0tsi. In 2030 golf will be an electric hybrid vehicle with an 1.2 120hp engine and a 30hp electric motor. Only that way he will be able to match EURO7 and later EURO8 emission standards which ask for under 90grams of CO2.

I test drove this engine (albeit with 95ps) on a seat ibiza, and it's downright impressive. It feels like it has a lot of torque at lower rpms, quite punchy like a small diesel engine, very enjoyable. Although an ecoboost feels more linear, I must say that the tsi engine suits my relaxed driving characteristics way better.

@@singleturbosupra7951 How it sounds 0.6l engine 4 pistons 102hp? Normal aspirated engine. Look at honda hornet. And it is working at double the rpm ( at least). Because I have the 1.0l tsi and I also have a car with 0.8l engine I can asure you that this engine will last very long. Look at ford's 1.0 turbo with 125hp. Was declarated the best engine 6 years from 2012. So....what we ar talking about? Big engines are done...and so are the disel engines. I manage to get a 3.9L/100km with my toledo ( 1.0tsi 110hp).

@@hordevran I think that what's happened because it was similar to when this happened on my xt660x motorcycle, due to lack of oil lol. I'm still not sure to this day tho, when the tow trucker came he just told me that it was dead and because of anger I didn't investigate too much xd. But yes, you're right, nowadays it's mostly about if the car is enjoyable or not the first 80'000kms and that's it. Currently I have a 1.4 tsi Golf 7, and I just reached 200'000kms, but 3/4 of them where done on the highway, so nothing incredible, and I don't think it will be able to reach 250k..

In india vag is producing vws and skodas with turbocharged 1.0 engine with the same specs, but for sedans 💀. I had my doubts so i drove hondas ivtec 1.5 na too but, acceleration this 3 cyl engines are giving is just 😘, so i bought a skoda sedan. I think reliability might be a issue.
