40k+ for a golf is just insane, you get a lot more car with the Kuga.

Ahh, like they said, they’re fairly different briefs; one is a smaller, sportier hatch that’s also quite practical, the other a vehicle aimed more at carrying capacity and comfort, that is also still a very decent drive. But on price alone, you get much more car for almost the same money in the Kuga.

How's the actual total range on it?

@@coach2305 After +30000 km’s, I get a bit more then 40 kms fully electric. This is mostly highway driving at 110 km/h. It’s shit when it is cold outside. Takes a huge chunk out of the range. Everything combined I can do 1450 km’s with a full tank and if I charge daily.

Since I purchased a 2 year old PHEV 2.5 Kuga last August, neighbours have been curious, by asking about battery range and charging. I explain that if you can charge the car overnight in your garage then first 35 miles are all electric, or like my situation I charge it outside on the driveway during the day, if it's dry. There are too many driving options imo, but reverts to normal driving after switching off.

The Octavia iV PHEV is probably a better buy than the Golf if you want space. Octavia Hatchback is under €40k or get the estate for about €41k. €44k and you’re into the Octavia RS iV. Makes the Golf look expensive

The Octavia would be a better buy for space, but long term the Golf will be worth more come trade in time.....

Kuga has more tech, ie smart roadsign recognition combined with the adaptive cruise control (help beat the Gatzo) and for me the pièce de résistance self parking

Thing is that price wise the cars are comparable but you're not exactly comparing like for like as one car is a hatchback, the other is an SUV plus I'm sorry the Golf is just plain boring to look at, not that the Kuga is much better but I think it's the better car tho' I think I've yet to see the benefit of any plug in hybrid especially for motorway driving which for me still means that diesel is king.

6:21 thanks for leaving that in for a laugh! I'd go for the VW when compared to that Ford. What would be interesting to see in any hybrid is that it uses the sat/nav to predict when and where it can best use EV mode, when to conserve battery, and when to charge up for the next town.

The interior of the Kuga is outdated now and it should have led back lights. It could be the better choice but the same price for an older car? Nah.

All Grant's do is allow manufacturers push up prices, same as with housing, first time buyers grant? House prices go up over night, so defeats the purpose

To be honest the kuga is not in same league as Peugeot 3008 in looks or interior style

Aye I agree the 3008 looks better for sure but the PHEV range is pathetic. And when the petrol engine kicks in the MPG is very poor. Kuga may not have as good looks as the 3008 but it’s a better PHEV.

It would be a no contest for me personally. The Golf every time. I've owned several Fords over the years, including a 2014 Focus for 4 years. The Ford weakness is long term build quality. VW's seem to be built much better, and have a higher residual value after a few years.
