Man i really really hope the wagon/touring version of the ID7 comes to Canada. Wagons are so much better than SUV's and almost everything here is now an SUV

Canada should stop using US car regulation and start applying UNECE rules like EU and most of the world do. Then you would see many more EV models coming to Canada.

@@Lorwildrose Just remember when you see an EU car price it is incl. VAT. E.g. a German price includes 19% VAT. It is 20 years since I last were in Canada, I do not remember how VAT works there. Perhaps look up the German price for other cars you compare with.

Don’t know what happened to my comment. Anyway, I have the ID7. I have aldo owned the ID4 st Max and an ID5 GTX. The ID7 is in a totally different league in every respect. And it does have Spotify, which also makes the sound even better than if you stream from your phone through carplay, btw.

And, by the way @Bjørn: I live 10 minutes away from you. In case there is more stuff you want to test, give me a notification. We’ll set that up. The abilities during winter is also very good. I live on top of a very steep hill, and no issues during February with the heavy snowfall. In my opinion it is way better than the ID4 I used to own. Compared to the ID5 GTX its not far behind. Of course, some planning must be done out of intersections, into roundabouts etc, when there is a lot of snow and ice. With only RWD you don’t get the instant acceleration when slippery. Oh, and also: the towing capacity is actually 1200 kg outside of Norway. It is only 1000 kg here because of topography.

As for audio quality with carplay: just use an old-school Bluetooth connection instead of carplay. The quality difference is huge, but idk why it's so bad via carplay

Oh wow, I didn't try Bluetooth/built-in Spotify when I had my test drive, just CarPlay. And I was super disappointed with the sound, especially the bass. I must say this is the main reason I’m holding back on an order. Can anyone else confirm it’s better over pure Bluetooth?

Thinking about buying one today. Got a quote for 545' NOK on a demo that has 9k km. Comes with the interior+, exterior+ packages with pano sunroof and 20" summer and winter wheels. I guess my biggest worry is the RWD only, and that there is a larger battery package coming. Has the RWD given you any problems on Norwegian roads so far? Anything you're unhappy with?

Maybe the only downside is that interior is a little bland with not as nice materials as say a BMW, but that is quite a small thing and you can’t have everything for the price. People need to spend more than a couple hours to a day to a car barely driving it to incisively make a car review. You can tell the difference from when people get the car to drive for the day or actually live with it for a bit, for example Carwow’s review on it was obviously rushed and Matt came out saying it was a “meh” car seemingly just because it wasn’t exciting specifically to him, I don’t know if is because he had little time with the car or because he let his emotions get in the way of being an objective reviewer, or both, but it seemed overly critical especially when people who spend a good amount of time with it like Bjorn are ecstatic about it.

Sounds like a wonderful EV. Looking forward to the id2all. I think as a family car it seems well rounded. Battery Life Channel I think also did a nice comprehensive review of the id7. I think to date the main disadvantages in general are proce and size. I think there are not enough cars in the compact segment that are well rounded. Most seem to follow, it seems a general ice design with an EV sauce. I thonk a very good adaptive cruise control and lane assist support should be standard, but I'm noticing the quality differs greatly, which is not good. A second thing I'm noticing with compact cars is that the back seats ate not good mostly, which I think is shocking. I understand compact meansvless room, but if midrange EV class boasts about more space in a smaller EV form factor, I don't understand why they can't achieve the same woth compact cars. I think a solution to the rear space is a adaptive compromise with boot vs leg space. Woth which I mean that the compact EV value being we can choose if we want to move thecrear bench more forwards or backwards, to choose between more seating and leg space or more boot space, with the rear bench collapsable, flush with the boot space. Reason: I myself, but I also notice with others compact cars are either used by 1-2 people mostly and the back space mainly as cargo space or where 4 people sit in the car for short to medium trips.

Think that the tested range was in line with competition. Only looks like the ID7 is more efficiënt in better weather conditions vs competition. As such has a longer range. I have the feeling thats the reason why during this test the deviation looks kind of off. But drive an ID7 as well. Had similar range in colder conditions as tested. However now the temps are raising the ID7 is starting to be really super efficiënt!

The US-spec ID.4 will remember your drive mode and ADAS settings that you set every time you get into it, I don’t know why European IDs seem to not do this, maybe laws or just regional preferences? It’s just odd though because the software is capable of remembering, it just seems disabled in Euro markets.

I'm really curious about the tourer now, if and how much it adds to consumption. The space is already impressive with this car already. Another advantage with the MEB cars IMO, is that you can easily make small tweaks with the different settings in the software, so you can force lane assist to default to OFF setting, for example, if you don't want it and lots of other things. Still expensive, but I guess this is the car market nowadays.. great car nonetheless.

Don't know why VW doesn't sell the ID.6 in North America. It's a more spacious version of the ID. 4. We have had ours for a year here in China. Love everything about it. Sure, the infotainment system can be limited, but it's precisely because it's simpler that it's easier to use than some others'. I never need to touch the screen more than 3 times to get things done. Usually just twice. There are dedicated buttons for essentials like HVAC and lights. The electric motor is very efficient. VW's Adaptive Cruise Control has been a major surprise. It has made city driving so effortless and simple. I've come to appreciate VW's haptic buttons on the steering wheel. Their main advantage for me is swiping. You don’t need to look down when you swipe. Simplicity. It’s amazingly intuitive. When you need to adjust ACC cruising speed or sound volume or skip songs, you just swipe your thumbs across the indented middle of those panels , effortless - no need to find the right buttons. It’s a pity those buttons are misunderstood. Coupled with AR-HUD, I never need to take my eyes off the road.

I definitely like the front disc rear drum setup. It's more than sufficient, especially considering how much regen you have on the rear axle. On my old Golf, rusty rear discs/calipers that stopped working properly due to lack of hard enough use was always a problem. On an EV, the problem would be even worse. Having watched this video, I'm so, so tempted to trade my 2021 ID.4 GTX in for a 2024... (The ID.7 is just a little too big a car for my needs, but all the software updates and whatnot on all the 2024 models just makes for a considerably better car.)

Lose the haptic buttons on the wheel and replace them with simple separate physical buttons, and definitely not rocker-switches. Add two multi-use metal dials below the display (one for each side of the cabin; pressing in cycles through their several functions) with small screens on them and make them feel satisfying to turn. Add two Qi2 chargers up front and one on the back of each seat for rear passengers.

@@skorpion1298 It's not mandatory anywhere in Europe afaik, but because when you enter a roundabout you often have 3 directions - 1st exit (right), 2nd exit (straight), 3rd exit (left) - it is better to signal left if you're going for the 3rd exit (or an exit that is more to the left) to improve the traffic flow. If there are 2 lanes in the roundabout, the car behind you going straight will know to go past you on the exterior lane if you blink left, a car coming from the right and turning right (which would be your straight exit) will know it can enter the round about on the exterior lane while you keep the interior lane, a car coming from the front (your straight exit) will know for sure to stop if it sees your left signal. In general the more clear your direction is to the others in traffic, the smoother and uneventful the traffic flow.
