VW mk4 R32 Transmission Removal

This is a video for removing the transmission for a mk4 VW r32. In the middle some of the steps were edited out of order but are still close. This was done in my driveway on jack stands and is probably close to how many DIY'ers will be doing this job. The bolt that is very close to the oil filter assembly is best loosened using an 18mm straight gearwrench style combo wrench. Exercise caution when doing this job, take you time and pay attention. I use apiece of cardboard to reference where each bell housing bolt goes to avoid confusion and issues.

Great video, question the oil cooler you have is stock?? I’m converting my 18 Passat GT to manual using a 04 r32 transmission and I would like to do an oil cooler.

I took out the stock mk4 R32 water/oil cooler and put in a smaller water/oil cooler from a mk2, mk3 and mk4 four cylinder. What that allowed me was just enough room to put an adapter sandwich plate so I could redirect oil to an air/oil cooler. I still have the water/oil cooler but now have the addition of two “external” oil coolers so I can really hammer on my car at the track all day in the desert heat and not worry about oil temperatures
