I bought a Mazda RX7 at an auction. Nobody bid on it as it wouldn't start. I had it towed to the local Mazda dealer. It turns out they put a toggle switch on the dash to turn off the fuel when turning the car off. They were known to leak fuel into the cylinder when turned off thus flooding the rotary engine. My repair cost $40 including the short towing. I drove the car for 3 years and sold it for more than double what I purchased it for. Best sports car ever.

I detailed over 2000 vehicles of 2000 semi trucks and the one they got learned is when you have that amount of water even with that moisture tester you should remove all the seats and the carpet and the insulation because there’s a good chance there’s moisture underneath the insulation and the moisture tester, not reading it and there may be moisture and some other electrical connectors. You should remove all that and put a dehumidifier inside the vehicle otherwise you or someone will probably have issues with your electrical system in the future.

I've had to replace the engine computer (PCM/ECU $1,100) and front and rear control arm ball joint tie rods and sway bar link kit ($490) but original shocks. Really besides that it's been 23+ year's without problems. I know there's many examples of great results from long term ownership of various makes and models but none....none are reported by Porsche owner's. I paid 30K for the car new for my wife. I drove it home slowly because the brakes were almost non existent…. Replaced a couple cracked Vacuum lines and voila EVERYTHING magically worked…. Another time I bought a Norton 850 commando for next to nothing every time you revved the engine it leaked oil everywhere, the previous owned tried dressing up the engine by replacing all the external high pressure oil lines with some really nice looking fuel line …. The gas line couldn’t seal at the fittings no matter how tight you made the ace hardware hose clamps …again replaced the hoses and clamps with required parts ,worked like a champ..

The second drain you found up behind the wheel arch liner is not the sun roof drain, it is the drain for the plenum chamber, a very well known issue for Touareg owners! Just throw the rubber tit thing away on both sides, but also check the cabin air filter is dry. Place a gently running hosepipe at the base of the screen and you should see water running out from the wheel arch drainage holes on each side of the car. The rockers or sllls below the doors also fill with water. No one knows how by the way! There are, from memory, three rubber grommets in each sill. Park the car on a slope and then remove the lowest of the grommets and any retained water will run out. And Touareg is pronounced with a long A as in Twaah-reg!!

I like your videos as you're down to earth and nothing is put on. I enjoy the simple logic as yes there is a fault now let's see what's causing it. Again most of the cars faults where down to a water ingress issue I.E. the sun roof to what I've fixed a lot and always time consuming. But you found the bad and broken wires a lot through your own personal experience. I will wait to see your next video coming soon. Respect from across the pond in the jolly UK 🇬🇧 What's not so jolly now a days 😮

I had this issue on an e90 bmw sunroof. I used a bicycle pump and hooked it to the top drain ports with rubber grommets. Thru boiling water down the drain and pumped the pump. The air pressure was gentle enough to blow out all the crud..

When I worked at safelite we cleaned drains all the time. Fill the drain and then we used the compressed air longer style wand.

That is a deal! I am amazed at how terrible the electrical is on these. I have torn a lot of cars apart trying to trace down wiring issues and never saw such bad work right out of the factory. I understand they do not expect the interior to get that much water etc but I have vacuumed a lot of water out of cars because someone forgot to roll a window up or left the sunroof opened partially opened and it poured out but none had issues like this where the wires shorted or actually corroded away and I live in the north east. Truthfully if I was lucky enough to get this 2008ish Cayenne for that price I would cut and reconnect all the splices that are just taped, solder them, cover them with heat shrink tubing and use the liquid wire insulation over that to seal it all up nice just in case.

What you achieve without having to hoist the car and work underneath is amazing.

Not the same but similarly, I was 18-19 and bought a Toyota MR2 for $500 because the guy thought it was toast after the "engine caught fire"... the alternator burned up and melted the belt off and it sat for a year... I paid him, drop a battery in and drove it home... all it needed was the alternator and belt. He was so mad. Man that car was fun to drive.

If it is like my Q7 (and it looks it) It is not the sunroof drain but the cowl drain from the bottom of the windshield , it gets blocked with leaves and water overflows into the car from every hole. Turn the steering to full lock and remove the corner of the wheel liner , remember to do both sides

My '01 Jetta had a recall on the drain tube openings. Basically they designed the openings of the drain tubes to the exterior of the car with those little pinches to prevent bugs and debris from plugging it up. Little did they know or think about with the fact that any of the soot from the roof that washes into the sunroof tray will inevitably plug that up pretty quick. The dealer fix was to just cut off the pinch on that nipple and leave it open. I would suggest doing that even though I assume later in the video you already put it back together

Thanks for the tip on using weed Wacker line to clean out sunroof drains. Every 4 months I use my air compressor to blow air into the top drain hole.
