Anti-seize coating is good for the right spark plugs. However, you should NOT use it on NGK spark plugs when they are inserted for the first time. They already have a priority coating from the factory. It is also a good idea to torque the plugs. This is how I do mine: Vacuum the holes before removing the old spark plugs and replacing them with new ones (check the gap: 1.0mm-1.1mm). Once they are out, blow out the holes with air. Screw the new spark plugs in finger-tight and then use a combination wrench to turn each one only 1/4 turn. Then torque to 18 ft-lbs.

Today i changed my spark plugs. Did everything you explained. My car works perfect. I pulled the engine cover too hard on one side and cracked the cover. I was like, DAMN!!! but that was my fault, I applied too much force. I rechecked the gap size with my gap tool and it was already pre-gapped by NGK. I drove tonight long distance and my car ran like a brand new car. Awesome , Thank you dude!!!

Good video- I wished you talked about the spark plug gap, but at least you talked about how many ft lbs they need to be tightened. Great!

Thanks for the video man. I am getting ready to change the oil on my 2009 Jetta for the first time(actually got 3 free changes with that one, and just bought a 2016 Tiguan and now there is no free changes). I was thinking about doing the plugs while I am at it, but the car only has 31K on it so it can probably go for awhile longer, its just the age I was thinking about. I always hated taking it to the dealership to get it changed because I have always changed the oil on all my American cars. But, I figured since it was free I would let somebody experienced with VW's do it. The last time I took it to the dealership I had them check the auxiliary port because it stopped working after the battery went dead. They said when I jumped it that it fried the port on the CD player(premium 6 disc in dash changer) and that I would have to get a new CD player at over 800 dollars. I said no thanks. I can do without it, which leads me to wonder if you had to use a VAG COM when you unhooked the battery to get that auxiliary port working again(which is what I recently found out I need to do to get mine working again because the dealerships are notorious for lying about that). Of all the sensitive electronics in one of these cars, somehow jumping it managed to only damage the auxiliary port? I called BS on that anyway, but I dont have the software to check it myself. This caused me to wonder if they actually changed the air filter, oil, or oil filter when I took it up there for the free changes/inspections. I checked the cabin air filter a couple days ago, and it has never been out of the car, and it was dirty as hell. The inspection sheet said it was checked, but it had obviously never been taken out. Since the new Tiguan will always be changed by me now I thought I should learn as much as I can about how to work on these cars, and get whatever tools I need to make it easier. I have to give it to VW though, in the 6 plus years I have had the Jetta the only only thing I have had to do to it is changed the front headlights, tires, and the aforementioned oil changes. It still has the original batter even though it was ran down completely dead a few years ago. Thanks again, and sorry for the wall of text.

Great video, I'm no mechanic but I followed your steps and had no issues whatsoever. You saved me a stack of dough, man, thank you! When I powered on the car afterward though, I do have a couple dash lights showing - the power steering and the skid-correction lights and I'm not sure if the car just needs to run for a while and cycle them out, or what. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!

I had one of those grommets tear. They are not expensive. I just had to order a new one. I like to spray a little heavy duty silicone in them so they slide off more easily. Do not use petroleum on them if you want them to last a little bit longer. That degrades the rubber but silicone should not. Use dielectric grease or something similar if you don't have silicone. They will be a little bit easier next time.

The 2.5 does not have a timing belt but a timing chain. Really doesn't need changed until 100k. Its located on the transmission side. A lot of work involved to change them.

Sweet....I hope to do mine soon....I get a lil misfire e ery now and then...but doesn't throw a code...so a plug change seems like the culprit...it had 73,000....and I do t know if previous owner had them changed...so why not...otherwise when I drive on the highway...it rarely misfires.... So I call a plug ..

@scirockalot8v
@scirockalot8v 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly it's a discussed topic. Ford uses it on their 5.4 Triton heads since the plugs were breaking off in them. A light smear on the threads is safe. Some say it reduces or increases(not sure right now) torque value. The torque wrench doesn't know if there is anti sieze or not and is going to click at the specific torque setting. I haven't had an issue with it. In an old cast iron head I wouldn't use it.
