This video demonstrates how to remove a stock diverter valve, check for failure, and replace it with an updated valve. The process is very simple and is a great DIY for people with basic mechanical skills and minimal tools.
Volkswagen's diaphragm style DV is prone to failure, especially on tuned cars with increased boost levels. To correct the problem, VW released updated versions, such as Revision D. The plastic piston does not tear like a diaphragm DV can.

Just a heads up to anyone who watches this. If you have a diaphragm valve, it's probably best to go ahead and upgrade to the piston. Turns out my older valve developed a tear, small enough to go unnoticed but large enough to cause my K04 turbo to have to work harder to build up the same boost. Well, long story short, my K04 needs a rebuild/replacement after only 35K miles because of excess shaft play due to overrun. Great video ECS!

Hello again, checked my diverter valve and the orange diaphragm was ripped also, its out now and i'm going to the local parts house tomorrow to get a new one. i noticed in the connecting part of the wire harness and the diverter valve itself there was oil, is this meant to be? or is there a bigger problem? thanks again, for the help.

There wasn't any oil around the valve, only in the plug. if that helps clarify.

If you do suggest a B.O.V., diverter valve or a combo of the two, which one would you suggest specifically? I have a P0299 code on my 2009 GTI (big hissing noise when I rev, sounds like a big boost or exhaust leak, but I don't see anything visually). Came upon this vid, removed the DV but mine looks fine, no tears or visible wear. Any other ideas of what it can be?

A dv recycles the air you release when you come off of throttle after boost, a blow off valve just releases the air into the atmosphere.

Alex Kilpatrick yes, it was very simple actually. Look up how to take off the electrical sensor and all you have to do is put some pressure down on the sensor, push a little bit forward and pull back and it should pop right off, don’t rip it off bevause I wanted to so bad. This took me countless hours of researching, then I saw one guy explain the method of pushing down, then a little bit forward then pulling it off. I hope this helps. I know how frustrating it is lol. But I eventually got it ofd

How often do you have the change the revision d diverted valve? I changed mine around 35k miles and now have 98k miles. I am loosing boost somewhere and I was told, common places are the Diverter valve or the pcv system. Thanks
