Good stuff thanks for posting this up. I just did my B8 Passat using the exact same method of winding the actuator in. Calipers are different, but procedure is the same. Not much excess length on the motor cable, so you have to be careful not to disconnect the connector. Have to say the quality of parts as OEM on the car is shocking, 50k miles on a motorway based car and the brakes were ragged. The calipers will need refurb next time, I've the car from new. Last brakes I did was on an '01 E39 3.0D, fronts changed at 170k miles are rears at 140k.

Just lining it up might be a little off so move the torx screw back then when u start the motor it will go until it feels pressure of the pad against the discs then recalibrate so u could leave ur caliper on then just fit the motor.

I tried this but, the piston will only recede part way. It stops at the half way point. What can be causing the piston from not winding fully back in?
@MikkoRantalainen2 жыл бұрын
If you are absolutely sure you have rotated the screw that would normally operated by the motor the whole way, I'd guess your caliper has rust or some other thing broken inside the caliper. I'd just replace the whole caliper because those cost about 50 EUR a piece. If you feel lucky, you could just get repair kit but in my experience, once the caliper starts to misbehave, it never works correctly without reworking the metal parts and then it's cheaper to just replace the caliper.

Do you have the button with the Wrench icon in the dash? If not, the service reminder cannot be reset without a software tool. Unless I've misunderstood something, if the sticker in the spare wheel container in the trunk has code "QG1" then your dash will be missing the Wrench button because the car is supposed to use flex service interval where computer estimates the service times and the setup assumes that you actually want to have it serviced in official repair center. If that's true, you need something like VCDS or OBDEleven to reset the service notification.
