VW Polo MAP Sensor Replacement

Hey guys. This video is me changing out the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor on my 2005 VW Polo 1.2. It is quite an easy job and requires little skill. I believe it is a similar process on the VW Golf, but obviously the sensor will be in a different position.
From my channel title you can probably tell I am NOT a professional mechanic - instead I am just a guy with a camera documenting his experience in the hope to help others. There is limited information on the Polo so hopefully this will be helpful to others.
A couple of years back I didn't have the courage to even change the wiper blades on my car, believing cars were just out of my depth, but now I do all sorts of repairs on my car. KZbin has helped me greatly, through watching videos of all different cars and learning from others who are pretty amazing with cars - it has empowered me to work on my own car. I hope to add to the wealth of knowledge online with my peanut brain.

Hello, I also cleaned the MAP sensor, it was more dirty than yours, the error code did not disappear, so I deleted with OBD2, you have good videos BIG LIKE

Which OBD2 scanner do you use?

@@uberscuba4796 I think basically any of them will work, as long as it isnt the cheapest one available. I bought mine from biltema. (A Swedish retailer that has stores in nordic countries) I think the model they sell is a rebranded chinese model, which is why probably most will work.

I assume that your polo is a 1.2 I can't find the Maf ony wife's 1.4.

Mr GShocker Did you locate the throttle body? If it is a MAP sensor it will probably be near there. You might also want to check near the air filter if they used a MAF..

Can you addapt the Throttle Body after cleaning it by resetting the ECU (connecting the + and - wires). Or does it only works with a diagnose program like VCDS?

Hey, im almost certain you can only do it with a program like VCDS :(. But they are pretty cheap if you know where to look

Cleaning throttle body can disturb some parameters, but in time the parameters will self calibrate in the ECU. I had the same problem after cleaning the throttle body.

As a caveat, not all models are fitted with a (mass air flow) sensor, many merely rely on your throttle body sensor, and vw dealerships are little help, as they will simply charge you the earth to solve a common fault that not even the manufacture has a definitive fix for. Best advice, check 1 of the many good forums, many of which people have put some good illustrations. Happy hunting.

Can anyone recommend a cheap OBD2 scanner for the polo 9n. VCDS is too expensive for me. I just want something basic that works with VAG cars

like to watch your videos as I have the same polo and a slight rough idle. to clear ecu you could have used a LONG screw driver and touched both + - to clear memory

Hey i have a polo 1.2 tsi 2017 steam was coming out of the hood and what i think it is a map sensor it the back off the engin was brokek now the car whant start I check for overheating butt there is now milky on the tipstick and i check my plug it getting wet ...whats wrong with my car

Hey, this car doesn't have a MAF sensor. But if your car does it'll be just after the air filter housing most likely

i had similar issue engine running rough on idle also when accelerating, engine light came on, got error read replaced all sparks and coils ran great for a while then light back on and weird issue with accelerating going from 1st to 2 just really stuttery and lumpy, code read again and now lambda o2 sensor issue apparently possibly caused by first issues.

Originally engine light came on, an error code lead to new sparks and coil packs all four, ran great for a bit then light back on and new code read as possible issue with lambda sensor mechanic reset code revved engine etc runs a little better but slightly jerky in low gear so maybe is lambda.

I think it must be, but im really thinking of getting rid as it done over 141,000 miles and its got yet another problem, sounds like im going over a bucket of bolts when i go over a bump now, so I think its the end :-(

Probably....141k miles is a lot for polos, they are generally quite problematic. nice analogy about the bucket of bolts :)

If you experience difficulty undoing the connector, push it fully 'Home' first, then try again. If you're still struggling, heat gently with a Hairdryer and repeat

Messed Up Mechanic you know the MAP sensor bit that is inside with the rubber sealant it’s stuck on quite tight, I feel like it’s stuck because of the rubber so I wondered if there’s was any possible way to force it out since it’s not moving and I’ve ordered a new one !

Hi I have the same issue with my VW POLO 2006 petrol. My car will start fine in morning and it will run like 10 minutes without any problem,after that it will start to jerk and stall.Also it will work fine if i stop engine and restart. This is happening randomely after a cold start. The only code i found was 01314 and i changed the throttle body ,one week it worked well and again started the same problem. If somebody can help me to diogonise the problem will be appreciated😊

Hi I have a question,I have a polo diesel 1.2 smokes a lot a black smoke from exhaust,replaced new injectors,serviced the throttle body and cylinder head,would there be a problem with the map sensor ,how to identify it and also some time while driving i get the cylinder 2 contribution balance error with the spring symbol in dash board and it goes away after some time.will that be a serious issue,after changing 3 brand new injectors it is happening

Hey, I think it was £35ish a few years back for an aftermarket sensor. If you are in UK - I checked (for my car) you can get a similar one at carparts4less for £40 after using their discount codes.

soz getting bk late was on hols. It did work for the problem I had...tho bear in mind thses polo 9n's are known to develop timing chain slack which causes similar symptoms

You are not Professional but You are good analyser. In the market many technicians are just looking at the Checking Computer and does whatever it says. But Diagnostic Computers are not smart enough to identify the main problems. Your video is very well to clear the path of ignition problems. Thanks a lot.

Fucking shit ass mechanics left my MAP sensor without screws it just sits there in the socket and i have issues with throttle and idle, now i cant find anywhere to buy those exact screws with T20 head and fillet, ive tested dozens of screws nothing fits, nothing grips.
