Yep mine is doing the same and I have been thinking its the underside mount and you have described the problem and how to fix perfectly, thanks very much, great post.

Hi David, after about 100 miles it started again as the top mounts had also perished. I’ve since replaced them too and the difference is incredible! They were easy do do as well.

When I replaced mine a few years back some of the cheaper pattern gearbox pendulum mounts would foul the gearbox, the curve was ever so slightly out. If you have a new noise after fitting it is worth checking. Probably be fine though.

Cheers. Something to look out for. It went on fine, hopefully it will out last the van now

Great informative video. I am getting a slight judder when pulling away in first gear but I have had a complete new clutch fitted a year ago . I need to check this item out. I would've thought changing an engine mount was a big job but it looks like it is something even I could manage . Cheers .

I think when mine comes back from the garage next week (finally) been saying that for about month now 🤣 I'll get underneath mine and have a look at this part. I've changed several bushes, but over looked the engine mount.

Great job mate. I have a 1998 vw t4 2.4ltr lwb I have a similar problem although mines the opposite. Fine when pulling away but in reverse it shudders. And if I try pulling away to quick I can feel the engine rock. I have been told its the gear box support/mount is that what you have replaced? And if so where did you purchase it from. Like the channel by the way
@pdubs78313 жыл бұрын
‘Gear box support mount’ that is exactly the part in the video, I’ll put the link below for you £28.00 delivery in a few days. Just maybe worth checking compatibility with your year of van but I imagine would be the same part. Job took 1 hour including getting the van up on the ramps, cleaning and celebrating 🥳 , glad your liking the channel. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Transporter-IV-T4-Rear-Lower-Gearbox-Engine-Mount-701-399-207B-New-/183726582419?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

Well done! I am not pretty sure, but when you started the engine at the end of the video - i think i could hear the ticking noise of the vaccum pump. Are you sure that the vaccum pump is in good condition? When you pump with the break pedal and the ticking noise goes away for a short time, then you definitly know: its the vaccum pump. The original is manifactured by Pierburg - i always try to get an original one - the cheap ebay ones do not last very long from my experience.
@pdubs78313 жыл бұрын
Cheers Alex, you obviously have a keen ear, the breaks work perfect, (now that I’ve done a tonne of work to them) does the vacuum pump have any other purpose other than for the master cylinder?
@alex76bulli33 жыл бұрын
@@pdubs7831 The vacuum system is used for the master brake cylinder, but also for ventilation flaps behind your dashboard and for the TDI with 150 HP for turbo control. In addition to the air conditioning system and the intake manifold, auxiliary water heating also requires a vacuum. So you can see that it really depends on your engine and vehicle equipment.
@alex76bulli33 жыл бұрын
@@pdubs7831 because of the mounting point on 5 cylindar diesel engines and its general work principal, the vacuum pump is a weak point and slightly is filled with oil when the pump membrane gets weak. The noise is then generated by the internal metal pin, which drives the pump by the camshaft. if it can not come back in time (because of oil) the camshaft is hammering on that pin. So a bad pump can lead into camshaft damage. This and the serious need of vacuum for the breaks makes it important to have a serious look on the pump health in my opinion.

@@pdubs7831 just recondition the vacuum pump yourself, I’m sure you’re more than capable, just be careful with the rubber gasket coz aftermarket gaskets don’t fit properly

What’s the part called? Any part numbers? Currently have a T5 2.5 tdi juddering and engine movement

It’s typically called a gearbox mount. Same principle, but it will likely be a very different part shape specific to your model and engine size.
