VW T5 Camper Conversion Project Part 17: Fitting VSR Split Charge Relay Installation

In this short video I cover how and where I install a voltage sensing split charge relay in a VW T5 Camper Van Conversion (See links below for item links). The split charge relay is extremely simple to wire in to a camper or van and ensures that while the van is on the move, it will charge the leisure battery along the way. It also means that if you have solar panels fitted (like I do), if the van is parked up for a long time, the solar panel will start the split charge relay and charge the starter battery. The split charge relay installation is completed within a couple of hours and once fitted and installed, the fitted split charge relay can be left to do its thing with no maintenance required.

Have you just got the solar panel wired from the charge controller to the leisure batter you? If so does this still charge the vehicle battery through the split charge relay

Yes if the voltage is high enough from the panel

Hello mate What amp cable did you use from main battery, and where is the grommet to remove for the feed from main battery?. Also are 100a inline fuses correct? Seems quite a resistance. Cheers from Cornwall.

The relay is 110a charger so 100a fuses is fine as they would blow before the charger went. I used 110a cable, I think there should be links to everything I used in the video description

Another great video. I have just fitted leisure batt and split. Can I ask some basic advice. I plan on running the live from the leisure batt to a switch panel. This panel has six switches, all fused. Lights will run to those switches. The panel has usb ports which will be used for charging phone etc. Does that sound ok?
