I have these on my mk6 golf r along with the racingline shocks. Perfect oem+ setup. I had a pretty extreme suspension before that. It was so nice to drive once I put the vwr setup.

2017 MK7 GTI original owner here. Through my ownership, I have used two different sets of coilover. First was BC Racing BR’s. One of the front shocks seized after 40k miles of use (the shock body would not twist anymore). I replaced those with a set of ST XTA’s. After about 6k miles, one of the front shocks stopped compressing, and one of the rears started leaking. I bought both of these sets brand new. I honestly didn’t think either set improved the handling of the GTI much at all. It was just nicer having a firmer suspension feel, and lower stance, but the handling was so so tbh. After having such bad luck with both sets of my coilovers not lasting very long, and not being that impressed with the handling aspect, I decided to go back to OEM. I installed the OEM shocks back on, and tbh, I really enjoyed the softer feel. It handled well enough for my daily use. The problem was that I just hated the OEM high stance. So after using my OEM shocks for the last 30k miles (with zero issues), I decided, after doing a ton of research, that I was going to get lowering springs. After evaluating which brand of lowering spring I was going to get, I decided on EMD lowering spring (Emmanuel Designs). I was thinking VWR, but there were too many reviews of them being “too soft” and “bottoming out” often. So I bough the EMD springs, but I always knew I didn’t want to put them on my OEM shocks, just because in my head I thought that’s a lot of work to do, for my OEM shocks to eventually fail because they just aren’t made to withstand lowering springs for a long period of time. So I decided, after a lot of research, on Koni Yellow shocks. So I have those ordered, as well as brand new top mounts, bearings, bump stops, and hardware. I also ordered the 034 Motorsport rear sway bar. Will be putting this all together her in a couple weeks. I’m excited, and I honestly feel like this setup lowering springs + damper combo) will be the best way to go for this car.

Beautiful ride and thanks for the video! I’m still trying to decide which springs to go with. After you video stronger lean towards the VWR. Did you add anything else aside from springs such as the Audi TT rear pads as some are doing to even out? The height you have is the look I’m going for. Only concern is will it be too low when loaded up with the family. Three kids and my wife. Thoughts would be appreciated.

Perfect Fit. I installed racingline springs with stock shocks in my golf 1.4 tsi. I wanted to eliminate the 4x4 look of my golf. I just want a little lowering. Now I dont know if Bilstein B8 should be a good pair of shocks for these springs.

B6 will work too. B8 vs B6 according to vw forums that have discussed this already. is that the "drop" difference

Just binging your videos, finally, someone updating on 2019 GTI's You got yourself a sub, Is the ride quality still the same after all these months. I want to get springs for the cost since Bilstein Coilovers cost an arm and leg, but heard over time ride quality going to shit with springs

So far it’s the same. Stock shocks on lowered springs would get harsh over time but it all depends on the roads you drive and if you have constant passengers. These springs are a mild drop and should have shocks last longer than the more aggressive springs. Welcome to the channel!

I’m reluctant to lower my MK7 GTI after my last experience with my MK6. I lowered it on VW Driver Gear springs (aka DG Springs) and paired them with Bilstein Tourings expecting an OEM+ ride. I don’t know if it was because the springs were for a 4-door TDI DSG which was heavier than my 2 door GTI DSG. But the ride was VERY stiff and unyielding to even small bumps and cracks in the road. If I remember correctly they were linear and not progressive like most springs. It handled great and didn’t bounce one bit but rode like granite. Maybe I’ll try VWR…

I love my hankook ventus v12 evo2 for a daily tire.still has amazing traction in the rain and sticks like glue on a hot day.can’t really speak on snow driving.

My fear is that the car will look “bad” if I throw aftermarket wheels on it without lowering it at the same time.

These aren’t a super aggressive drop like other springs so ride quality is still there thankfully. Just enough to eliminate wheel gap
