Ok I’m gonna si the basic question… what do you look for when you are actually trying to purchase and old ghia? I want one sooo bad, but I know NOTHING about cars (I admit it!) So what do you look for or what questions do you ask? ANY guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

An impressive tour of some fine work in progress and one to soon be in progress Ghia! Absolutely Loved the custom Karmann Ghia with the tastefully added Porsche additions! A man with a checklist in his hand is on top of his game indeed! Well done, really! I enjoyed this upload immensely! -VeeDubDen

Ahh Ghia's... I did some body work on a '57 years ago. The passenger front fender had some bad repair over rust and bad dents. Customer supplied a replacement cut from another lowlight Ghia. The replacement when fitted up was 1 1/4" longer than the un damaged driver side. The Karmann Ghia's are truly hand built, so body work is time consuming and fitting and "adjusting" is critical. The Ghia's in your shop look great! Thank You for the video!

I bought a 70 in 2004 for $800, yellow. It was a turn key car. Had It’s fare share of rust, but still a solid car. My enjoyed that car for ten years. She loved to rally that thing! Drove it over the hill from Santa Cruz to San Jose at least once a week. She put many miles on that fun car. When we sold it for $1200, she still ran just as strong as the day we bought it! Only money we through at it was brakes and tires and tune ups/oil! My wife named it Dolphi! Great cars! Way cooler than a bug. But still, my preferred ride is the early bay window.

Hello you guys! I love your channel! Question- At what point is a Ghia too far gone? I have three that I am hoping to turn into one. The bottom 4" of the bodies are pretty Rusted through. Are all those panels available or would they need to be fabricated?

The white Ghia has dual cables running to the decklid latch, is this for an electric solenoid? I would image not an "emergency release", as they default to open. Great Work! Thanks!
@AirkooledKustoms2 жыл бұрын
yes there is a Manuel release , being that all of the doors, hood, and engine lid are electric and on remote

Fair enough. Kind of subjective, though... they're GREAT for those who love them and know how to maintain them. They're HORRIBLE for people who'd like to hop in and just go, without giving it more attention than a modern car would need.

Ghia's as 'restored' or 'resto-mods' or collector car. People, dont get roped in by these billy-bob shade tree Chip Foose wanna bes.... A Karmann Ghia is a fine candidate to 'fix-up' and drive for the car that it "WAS"... I just bought a solid, running driving 66 Ghia in SoCal for $5,000. single 1600cc. Oh yea sure, I can put a 2800 etc, etc. fancy smancy motor with way too much horsepower, then I need a freeway flier transmission and upgrade all the suspension, and dont forget the 4 wheel disk brakes. Let me tell you something, you still have a tin can Volkswagon. I dont want to be in a VW going faster than 60 mph... its just not safe. Im an old school guy, mine is going back to ALL STOCK, I'll put $2,500 into paint and body, $12-1500 inside, and have a great looking running car. at the end of the day, I will sell it and make $2,000+ profit. If you go over board, and your car is stuck in some shop somewhere for 3-5 years getting all the 'do-dad's' and $30,000 later.... You're screwed.
@cmscms1234563 жыл бұрын
Oh yea, I forgot, and put a $87,000 pearl paint job, with 92 coats of clear coat, color sand and buff... etc, etc, etc.... Just take the car to Earl Scheib, or Macco and get their best paint job. The top end paint shops and Macco all hire the same slave laborers to do their work. If you're not smart about it, there is NO END to what you can spend on a car restoration, and believe me there are people out there that will talk you into anything... cha-ching.. $$$$$$ BE CAREFUL... Just buy a $5-8,000 Ghia, and drive it, have fun a few years, and sell it for what you have into it.
