Without a doubt the finest medieval re-enactment I have seen this afternoon..

The main fighting in Viborg took place between Swedes, Finns and Russians. It was built by the swedish marshal Torgils Knutsson. The most famous battle was in 1495 when the commander Knut Posse managed to beat back a huge attack from Novgorod.

just awesome! i would love to be apart of that. nothing beats steel weapons and full face helms. great battle and kind of gives a taste of what those hardcore men did to themselves back in the day. Could of done with screaming and crying to add to the effect tho. loved it.

En urgammal handelsplats sedan järnåldern som senare marsken Torgils Knutsson lät bygga en borg år 1293 och en stad som på 1470-talet fick en stadsmur på initiativ av Erik Axelsson Tott.

Ive actually done this here in the states, and can say that yes the blades are blunted, so no cuts, but you get the wind knocked out of you or knocked out a lot. And lots and LOTS of bruises

Every medieval battle should have been fought with epic winning background music! Huge speakers set up on the field of battle by a neutral 3rd party army. Inspiration at it finest. I mean look how well it did in this fight.

Trying to figure out the rules. No thrusting obviously. Seems if you fall down for any reason then you are out (couple of "shove to the ground and ignore attacks). Hitting from behind is OK or no? No targeting lower leg? Cool to see so many guys with falchions--I guess the long skinny swords break too often, huh?

@Irlandets actually the armor is historically correct otherwise you are not allowed to participate, they have a check post for that, and the only safety precaution is the blade sharpness which has to be at least 2 milimeters, thats it:)) the rest is pretty much the real thing
@l0udcheese11 жыл бұрын
the blades are blunted and the blows are pulled, plus the severe degree of training, conditioning and padding and armor

thumb up this if u like the idea. somebody for real should start a new hobby of this kind. but super realistic i mean real battle formation and stuying the battles like it was on the old times. train the guys who wanna do this so it would be organised and awseome and with real weapons but not sharp so nobody gets killed
@iainofiains11 жыл бұрын
There are already tons of hobbies like this.

I think The whole battle in the video shown here is from the hobby "Battle Of The Nations" a brutal medieval fighting sport. You should check it out, competitors from America, europe, even to Asia play these in huge scale (most of the time).

The armor. And no one is allowed to use blunt weapons, and everyone is probably "required" or advised to wear plenty of padding underneath. But I'm sure they end up with ugly bruises. They fall down because it hurts like hell and they don't get up because they don't want to. Because it hurts like hell.

the answer is ish. safeish by comparison. having done stage steel, rattan and foam padded swordfighting and mass combat it makes me a bit edgy to see people just "letting rip" on each other without much control. with the proper training (see Jomsvikings) i'd be willing to give it a shot.
