As for tapping the Trans pan lightly back in to shape, was good to see you thought of that, that should always be done due to the torque of the bolts usually pulls the bolt holes/base out of shape, best to use a small dolly on the underside if you have one so the surface is level. Well done, very informative Video.

Thankyou very much for your encouragement. Yes the old metal rocker covers is where I learnt to do that.

@@mwoods2062 Ahh, yes, 179, 186, 202, 253 & 308, as they all used cork gaskets. 😉

I’d love to see you give the motor a refresh.

It might be a while yet still collecting parts.

My son and I are servicing his Vz commodore. We're watching many of your videos on how not to mess up. Could you use a trolley jack with a block of wood to hold the pan up in a level position?
@mwoods20626 ай бұрын
Hi, yes you could but if you drain all the oil out it really isn't necessary.

Having the car on an angle, does it really matter much in regard to the oil level when refilling? I gather you’ve done it loads of times without an issue. Also that’s a V6 with the 5L40e?

Yes, it's an ly7 v6 5l40e and yes I think the car should be level as you don't want to overfil.

I saw a video of a bloke using a small dob of super glue in multiple spots to hold the gasket in place for fitting. Superglue dries hard and cork is soft. So it seems that that approach would be dodgy perhaps. Another fella uses 250 ml of an additive which may help the gearbox oil do its thing. What are your thoughts on doing such things. Thx

Another method is to use grease

Superglue sets hard, and may damage the gasket over time and may leak at that spot, not saying it will, but could. Maybe a lite smear of Permatex RTV on the Trans pan, and set the gasket out on that. (at least you know it wont leak on the Trans pan side),
