"ልዑል አልጋ ወራሽ አስፋወሰን ጥር 9 ቀን 1989 ዓ.ም በአሜሪካ፣ ቨርጂኒያ ግዛት በ81 ዓመታቸው አርፈዋል፡፡ የቀብራቸው ሥነ ሥርዓትም አዲስ አበባ ከተማ በመንበረ ጸባኦት ቅድስት ሥላሴ ቤተክርስቲያን ተፈፅሟል። ልዑል አልጋ ወራሽ አስፋወሰን በሕይወት በነበሩበት ጊዜ ከመጀመሪያ ባለቤታቸው ከወይዘሮ ወለተእስራኤል ስዩም (የንጉሰ ነገሥት አጤ ዮሐንስ ፬ኛ የልጅ ልጅ ልጅ) አንዲት ሴት ልጅ እንዲሁም እስከ ሕይወታቸው ፍፃሜ ድረስ በትዳር ሕይወት አብረዋቸው ከከቆዩት ከሁለተኛ ሚስታቸው ከልዕልት መድፈሪያሽወርቅ አበበ ዳምጠው (የራስ ደስታ ዳምጠው ወንድም ልጅ) ደግሞ አራት ልጆችን አፍርተዋል፡፡
