I ended up 3d printing some spacers in ABS for mine and used some spring washers and some m6 bolts from the top down. It's been working perfectly since.

You should consider checking your emgine mounts as I've heard they increase vibrations and can cause failures of the bracket and mounting hardware....on the 2nd gen with the OM603 the air filter is mounted to the front, right fender behind the headlight. The valve cover is about a 30s installation after you get the intake crossover pipe off which is also about 30s. Best thing is no valve adjustment as they are hydraulic lifter equipped..... Replaced the engine mounts a couple years ago but agree, it does make sense to look at them once or twice a year. I actually was scratching my head wondering whether or not a fabricated fender-well mounted air cleaner would be in the cards for this car.
