W212 OM651 twin turbo upgrade, removing old turbo.

Having fun removing the original turbo from OM651 before upgrading.
Seriously not having fun, one of the worst turbo installation I have ever worked on.
The turbo on W212 OM651 is not designed to be removed engine in the car.
You need angle grinder to do it and removing parts of the turbo which is a big No No considering warranty of the turbo.

This Video made my day 🙂 I am actually trying to remove and change the exhaust-manifold on exactly the same car. It's my wifes car. I started the work about 1 week ago, thinking of an afternoon-job. BUT....every single piece you try to remove is offering a new problem. I indeed had to buy new set of ring wrenches to get some screws loose. Really a pain in the a***. Luckily I have found your video which makes me know where the bolts are to loose the turbo. Just to get some space to remove the exhaust-manifold. All the best for you!!

These engines are really easy to work on..... But only when the engine is out of the car 😂 im here because after replacing turbo i'm left with one bracket and forgot where did it go 😂 thanks for the video

I have changed the manifold gasket that was leaking from the back. It wasn't as hard as you describe here. Used Alfamer repair book and it explained the right order to remove parts. No need for angle grinder and the bracket that has copper nuts can be removed quite easily as well.

Just for anyone wondering I’ve just done this job on a 2017 c220d exact same set up little differences in certain places but it is NOT a job for amateurs, 9/10 would not recommend.

I would think a single turbo conversion would be great, using a BW EFR ball bearing turbo and simplifying this tremendously 👍🏼👍🏼

Hi, I have just attempted this same job and gave up as I thought I'd hit the limit of my capabilities, seems I was wrong, the only element I couldn't complete was a part you seemed to not complain about, The two bolts that hold the oil return pipe onto the block of the engine what tool did you use to remove them and how did you reach them because that was where I had to stop because I couldn't see a feasible way to remove the turbo without first removing those bolts, please can you help me as I've put the car back together but will happily do the work again if it means I can complete the job

You are always right how did you lose this Bolts??? I got om651 too but it was a dumb engine there we're a boost leak on the right side i tried to fix that but it was absolutely pissing me off so i selled that Car and bought the om642

I found if you remove the dpf you can access them too nuts on the bracket really easily I did the same job on jack stands

Does the new turbo after installation need some program with computer or is it just ready to go after install

It works without modifications but to get most out of the modified turbo it needs more fuel and boost. With 250cdi injectors and a good tune it really picks up nicely.

Can you please tell me how you got those two bolts at the rear of the manifold off for the EGR? You are right it is a NIGHTMARE !! I am stuck on this an now with no car.

With a spanner, using a larger one as leverage. Can't remember if the bolts where E8 or E10 but just with a suitable closed end spanner. Its very tight squeeze, and if I recall the bolts are non magnetic even so you can't pick them up with it ih they fall.

I just finished this yesterday and what a nightmare. I am sore all over!! Just to give more pointers You dont have to remove the EGR pipe at the end of the exhaust. I managed to pull the manifold out and gold it up with a bungee cord which gave plenty of room. The pipe is a flexy copper one so it will take the bend. The bracket onto the alternator is a pane too. I managed to get than on from underneath with hose going into the inter-cooler off and battery disconnected in case it short the alternator wire. It gave me a fright when that sparked!!! The oil feed and drain bolts are the hardest to get at. I put the bolt onto the socket and wrapped a bit of tape around it to hold it and fed it trough the turbo. Sounds easy but those 3 bolts took most of the day. I have a P0248 error now to sort it seems down in power too. Anymore issues its a Honda or Toyota!!

@@joefoley4253 Nice work! I didn’t want to stretch the egr pipe as they can crack. I hope you didn’t burn anything by shorting the alternator. Did you check the wastegate hoses are in correct order, and not leaking. Or you have a bad solenoid. Either way its not actuating the wastegate properly.

Hi everyone! My s212 e220 diesel shows the P0252 fault, (injection pump fuel metering control "A" range/performance (cam rotor injector), it appears often afer 1 hour driving, mostly when accelerating from 120-130 kmh. Last diagnosis i made it showed even a pending fault P0299 low turbo pressure. Are these foults related to each other. Any thoughts/ advice ?

Just saw your post, change the fuel metering valve at the HP pump, they are known to go bad and causing all sorts of trouble.

@@performancejunky3258 boost leak, front two manifold bolts broken, or intake cracked are the most common. Least common, split intercooler pipe.

You should delete all the dpf egr & swirl flaps. Down pipe on mine made so much more down low torque and throttle response
