Thanks for sharing Masood. Yes, most all the labor will be in getting the knuckle off like Masood did here. I was converting my airmatic suspension and discovered ball joints were in bad shape. Now the right tool makes it soooo much easier. Good video.

I looked at a lot of videos prior to tackling this job. I don't know how the other instructions add up because I only followed these, but they were perfect. I followed the instructions to the T. If you're good with ball joint separators you could be at the opening scene within a couple hours. Excellent video and instructions!!

Hello Masood - Thanks for the tip. I guess this approach will depend on the clearance available under the knuckle once the car is on jackstands (as I don't have a lift). The extractor / press c-clamp usually used is quite large in size... Anyway, as I also have to replace the lower control arm, the only ball-joint left will be the tie rod end. Not a big deal. Have a nice day. Michael, FL
@masood-tv Жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, if you are replacing the control arm, as you said, it will be a lot easier to take the knuckle out and do the work on the bench. And you won't need to do an alignment since you are disconnecting the tie rod from the knuckle.
@michelcroteau538 Жыл бұрын
Good, I thought that removing the tie rod would impose an alignment afterwards. Michael, FL

Masood thank you for the very informative video! I would need a cordless impact gun because I won’t have access to a plug in power supply. How strong does the impact gun need to be as far as torque and power to be able to press and what size socket did you use for the press? Thanks 🙏🏾
@masood-tv Жыл бұрын
My pleasure. If you live in the USA, you can get the electric gun from Harbor Freight for less than $50 or the one I have reviewed in the following video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqSQnnqYmtitfbc. I don't remember the socket size but get a set that covers common metric sizes from 7mm to 22mm for most MB work.

Hello Masood - Thanks for your training on this essential segment of a W220. In your opinion, is it possible to replace the support ball-joint without removing the whole knuckle, means leaving it in some way attached to the front axle? Have a nice day, Michael, FL
@masood-tv Жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, Yes, by removing the steering knuckle at the top only from the wishbone.

Hi - the one I used in the video works very well. It is hefty and sturdy. It is also quite cheap at $58. Search on ebay for Mercedes Benz W220/W211/W230 Ball Joint Press Installer Removal Kit Tool .

Hi! Thanks for the great video! Qq. Are you usually add some extra grease into these balljoints? I bought oem new front control arms for the same W220 and found that all the dust boots seems to be close to empty. I do have harbor freight grease gun, seems like I need to get a grease gun needle and put some extra grease. What do you think?

you use the pressing tool absolutely WRONG on the spinnig side, you can exchange the End, you use it the whole time with the adpter, this is wrong!!! take it out and insert the correct type... at 5:17 you use 2 Adapters, this is dump... the lower one you must delete and the correct one (the one who is moving the whole time) must stick into the spinnig axle
@masood-tv8 ай бұрын
Hello, as you may notice in the video, the old ballpoint came out, and the new one was pressed in. If it was done incorrectly or "wrong," then the outcome should have - minimally - slightly differed. It is all about finding the right leverage. I could have used something else entirely to find that leverage. But, thank you for taking the time to comment.

@@masood-tv it has nothing to do with come out and in... it has to do that it´s very dangerous to use this tool in the wrong way... what did you think what can happen if it´s slipped away... i hope you have some good dentists Notice: when you use a tool, in first LEARN how to use it!
@masood-tv8 ай бұрын
That is the only one from the toolkit that fit on what you call the spinning side. I tightened it with a wrench first ascertaining it won't come out prior to using the impact gun - as it didn't.

@@masood-tv no thats wrong... the part on the black screwing part... on the top... you can remove... and the part that you hold with your hand you can put inside of the screwing part... sorry, english is not my main language remove the top part, that you used to pressed out the balljoint, this is just an adapter, not a presstool!!! check other videos and you will understand what i mean!

@nicod78 that won't work with this kit. Do you own it? Have you done this job with the same toolkit before?
