“There’s no stealth here. Your guys probably think that’s dishonorable or something.” Space Marines are no stranger to stealth. Every chapter implements it in some form or another, even if they usually charge chainsword first into a horde of enemies with a jump pack, screaming at the top of their lungs through amplified speakers on their helmets. The Raven Guard in particular are a First Founding loyalist chapter specializing in stealth and assassination. Their Primarch, the big guy that the chapter derives their genetic makeup from, Corvus Corax, literally had the ability to go invisible. A small percentage of the Raven Guard also have this ability. However, for the rest of them, their power armor is specifically made to be silent. Nothing makes sound. No servos, no motors, no armor plating clacking together. That, and decades of constant and brutal training to perfect their ability to sneak around despite being genetically augmented superhuman giants that are clad in ceramite power armor that weighs between 500 and 1000 kilograms depending on the model. (Which is 1100-2200 lbs.) Why yes, I do have the Warhammer sickness, how could you tell?

@@maxducks2001 Running a Necron army myself. In 4 months that I'm in the hobby, I've spent around 500 euros. I worked the entire Summer just to cover living expenses, so there isn't a lot left. What GW does to our wallets....

@@chucklebutt4470 Nah, Corax can do that whenever, armor or no. And while I’m positive he could still be the demigod he is even if he did fight without armor, primarchs are still human, even if they can take bolter rounds to the face and survive. After all, primarchs are only as invincible as the writing demands it. Vulkan, a perpetual who revives after death, was killed by an unaugmented human while he was in a battle rage by some Eldar pistols. It was really dumb. TL;DR He can do it armor or no, and why wouldn’t he wear armor in a war zone?

Biggest beginner tip for this game, is save your Servitors for ship hull and core upgrades. And to spread out the kills on your Grey Knights so everybody gets a decent amount of xp. In my first playthrough I had 2 interceptors and 2 purifiers at max lvl, while the rest of my guys was around lvl 4-6.

The bubbling frame rate killer is definitely just the amount of transparencies that need blending on screen (for those that want to go down the rabbithole google 'overdraw'). It's a great killer of frames across all gaming, and a reason why a lot of games render transparent effects with dithered checkerboard where every other pixel is transparent or even render transparent effects at quarter-resolution (this is noticable in the metro games among others). A bit surprising all the fire didn't already kill the frame rate, but I guess the bubbling stuff just has more layers to it. Surprising there's no particle effects slider for this. An upscaler option like FSR/DLSS would help too, and work well with a turn based game with fewer fast camera moves.

It's so true. I've fought so hard to keep away from becoming a 40k fan, but IOT do so I would have to completely avoid a few specific friends, as it is 451% contagious. Keep making content my dude

Biggest issue for me is that you either built your party around AP (re)generation, or you will run into a wall at certain parts of the game. Dear god was the craftworld raid ridiculous with an unoptimised party.

Hit chance? Bruh, these are grey knights. They >don't< miss. Also can confirm, the original chaos gate did indeed have a hit chance mechanic among many others. One might call it more a spiritual successor than an outright sequel though, since stories aren't linked to my knowledge, and you play as entirely different fellas.

Hmm, how does this game compare to 40K Mechanicus? Which one pulls its gameplay and concept off better since they're both X-COM like games?

As someone with 100% achievements in Mechanicus and around 100 hours in Chaos Gate…Mechanicus has a better feel. Things like cover are in Chaos Gate, but since they’re very melee focused you end up using cover as a way to end a turn instead of acting within it. Mechanicus forgo’s cover but changes XCOM’s style for the better. You can continue moving past regular limits based on how much free AP you have in your team’s pool…you can augment individual soldiers to be stronger or quicker or more deadly…it feels much more like your soldiers going out to die or live based on how well you prepare them.

Mechanicus, without a doubt. Both for the reasons mentioned by Kaito above, and because it integrates gameplay and story better. (Cultists with autoguns doing significant damage to Terminator Armored Grey Knights.)

The one thing strange to me, and maybe it's just me seeing something that isn't there... ... is how the Warhammer 40k games lately have all focused on Nurgle as their only Chaos representative. It's kind of strange because for me? Least interesting and least dynamic Chaos God to include in a game. Like their whole thing is "Is tanky" more or less with a side platter of fecal matter and pus. Which... I don't find interesting. Tanky enemies are boring. I don't like the filth focus myself. Zombies are overdone. It's just... not something that works for me. But every designer of 40k video games seems to have gone in on. I wonder when I look at games like that how much more interesting it might be to me if it was Tzeentch, or Khorne, or Slaanesh, or even just all four for good variety and mixing up the sort of threats you'd face at any given time.

Lmao, this is me with Nier Automata, I was really liking the game but then it just kept going on and on, and then you have to play it again. I was so bored of it by the end I didn't even care about the true ending.
