I'm a 60 year old retired and disabled military vet. Had a broken neck in the military and didn't even realize it. Years later, I suffered an accident that resulted in temporary total paralysis from which I recovered but have suffered through two spinal surgeries. Playing guitar is a passion of mine and while I have played for over 40 years, I can't even think fast enough to attempt to learn this. Regardless, I find joy and solace in playing and while I love classic rock, there is something healing in the old gospels and country folk songs. While I know I will never get to that level, one can always have fun trying.

Every guitar player that I’ve ever seen live has always inspired me to practice more. Like Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Roy Clark, Eddie Van Halen and so on. But then I saw Doyle Dykes for FREE! at a clinic. I sat there in the front row with my mouth open. When it was over I seriously considered giving up playing guitar. But I couldn’t I love it too much. So I bought the Virtuoso Fingerstyle Guitar book by Mr. Dykes and set out to learn Wabash Cannonball. What a workout. I’ve been practicing it for months and I’ve barely made a dent. But that’s okay,He’s made me a better player. And I want to thank you sir. When I get home from work I play the guitar not the TV. And when I finally started feeling better about my guitar playing, I saw Tommy Emmanuel live. And the whole thing started over again. 😂

I heard about your rendition of this song over on a the Blind Pig and the Acorn channel. I had to come listen. Im mesmerized! 😊I love your style of playing. I live in WNC near the GSMNP. It’s been quite the couple of weeks. 😢the stories coming out from the deep hollers and hills in ritual areas! Stories of survival and tragedy. There are no words. 🙏 I listened to an old Billy Graham revival recording from 1987 tonight. I grew up watching his revivals on 📺 (id have to go out and turn the antenna 😊). I sure do miss him. His son has sone fine work. So, that and now this, has made for a nice evening. Thank you. I think I need to come here more often. 🥰

Doyle, you always amaze me with the number of voicings you can get out of a single guitar. The subtle little bends to make this iconic song sound like crying steel. The basses are thundering much like a stand up bass, and of course the hot picking of this recognizable melody line. Great Job, Doyle. I'm a big fan and always look forward to the Sunday String Alongs.

DOYLE DYKES - Wabash Cannonball Google to be reminded that this Bluegrass classic “with a tune from the 1880s” was originally made famous by “Roy Acuff and his Smoky Mountain Boys” circa 1936. Best ever instrumental version? This one (says me) just posted (2/9/2024) by Doyle Dykes. Some devilishly difficult picking that Doyle delivers perfectly, beginning to end, managing to make it look (almost) easy. How does he do it? Doyle was playing this instrument, his signature model TAYLOR when my guitarist son Ben saw him perform at a Toronto music store - and called me to say “Best guitarist I have ever seen, Dad.” So, like father like son. By the time Mr. Dykes begins to accelerate the pace around the 1:39 mark, I'm getting goosebumps. You too? Celebrated elsewhere [search] " Great Melody, Great Lyric, Great Rendition, Songwriting Workshop, Harmony Central "
