Hi Jeannine! It’s Kristidyson from UWL. Good ideas as always. I had about 4 medium Yukon golds left from my batch this week. I left them sitting in my ipot too long and they were a little soggy on the inside. I decided to shred them and do the HBs on my cuisinart griddle. I have the pro model and it just has a flat surface. I cooked them anyhow and I dipped them in my straightupfood.com mushroom gravy that I’ve been obsessed with. I just warmed the gravy up and rolled my HB into a tortilla and dipped. The spuds were super soft bc of overcooking so they ended up smushed like a tortilla.

Thanks! Just bought a Cuisinart Griddler at Macy's so i can make these for Sunday Brunch! I'm using Simply Potatoes brand Shredded Hash Browns which are in the refrigerated section. Question please: if you use frozen hash browns you should thaw them first before putting in the grill...right?

Christy M. Hi Christy! Just got my griddler two days ago. By the highest heat setting, you mean the panini grill setting, right? (right hand knob)? I think the left hand griddle setting only heats the bottom plate. Not sure; still getting acquainted with my sweet new toy.

I watched this video and thought, "I really want a panini press so I can make these!" So, I showed the video to my wife who LOVES potatoes. She was so excited at the prospect of crispy potato goodness she told me, "Order one of those things. Order it now!" So, I did and she made plans for the day it was delivered that I would be making these hash browns and the SOB Burgers. We had both yesterday and they were fabulous! Thank you guys for these videos they are so super helpful and Ann is just my guru now after having this and the 'dry" oats with grapes! I love you guys! THANK YOU! HUGE HUGS!

I make hash brown "omelette's" using those same frozen hashbrowns - I cook them on one side then the other for as you said, "a LONG TIME" and then I put a yummy black bean, mushroom, spinach combo as the filling and then I eat it with salsa. Oh my god! Sooooooo good!

Hi! Well usually I start by sautéing the mushrooms in a little water then just add in beans that have been rinsed and drained followed by the spinach. Then I will add some spices, smoked paprika, pepper, garlic powder and cumin. You can play around with the spices. I hope you get a chance to try it:)

WOOT WOOT! I love crunchy too! But when I'm not feeling well and tired, I use my Instant Pot and dump in dehydrated hash browns, water to cover plus a little more, I add dehydrated onion and what other spices I want. Set it for 10 minutes, with a 10 minute timer delay to give potatoes to rehydrate. Then I take a nap LOL. Since It stays on warm, it's ready to comfort me when I wake up. :-) They come out soft and comforting. Add more water in the beginning and it comes out more like a potato soup.

Me again. Okay, not kidding -- I had these on my mind the whole day. So, a half hour before they closed, I drove myself up to the Habitat for Humanity Restore and purchased a huge "George Foreman Grill" for $15, just so I can make these potatoes! Since we can't find shredded packaged potatoes in NZ, I opted to shred 4 potatos in my food processor. I also shredded 1 small onion. Squeezed out the water, added seasonings and plopped them on the grill. Took 25 minutes or so for them to cook -- tasted fantastic!! Made one huge blob that I cut in two for my husband and I to share. Didn't come out as crispy as yours, but I think that is because of the onion - next time, I'll try onion flakes because there was just too much moisture in them for them to get crispy. But, there is always tomorrow. Hee hee. Thank you for this!! I have missed crispy fries SO MUCH!! I'm so excited to be able to do this!

This inspired me to try it in my Belgian waffle maker. It was ok, but I think the very deep squares didn't provide the most satisfying results. So I scored an Oster panini maker at my local Goodwill for $5.30 - woohoo! I was hoping that the ladies would mention the temperature setting they used, but they didn't. I'll try medium-high. ........ Ok, that worked great! I didn't really time it, somewhere between 15-20 minutes on medium-high.

The one that Ann is using is using a Breville Panini Press. It is the older model of this one, Breville BSG520XL Panini Duo 1500-Watt Nonstick Panini Press. Our family used to make Paninis with it years ago before I became WFPB. I am glad to have a new use for it... LOL But I think the one that Jane is using is different... I tried figuring out the make and model but I was unable. :) Hmmm... maybe is it an older De'Longhi CGH800 Contact Grill and Panini Press? I perused Amazon and that is the best I could come up with. the Breville is and Amazon Choice... ;)

What about acrylamide?

If you are worried about acrylamide, you need to avoid these. Anything crispy forms acrylamide if it's a carb. Most aren't willing to give up EVERYTHING!

Finally, a good reason to use that George Foreman grill. I use to use it to cook meat but now I don't eat meat.
