The traditional drum set is Taiko. Beni is playing a Tsugaru Shamisen. The flute is a Shakuhachi (8-hole flute). Yuko is singing in Shigin style. The flat zither is a Koto. The guy playing Koto is Yuko's husband. The guitarist is wearing a Noe mask.

That second song's main chorus that she sings has become the encore chant for their audience. There is a video of them performing it in '21 when the restrictions on crowd size and masking was going on, they had two large screens with people at home singing along not sure if that was live or not, but extremely moving.

Interesting band, I like the use of a variety of instruments, and they make it all work together somehow.

Very cool reaction.👍 In my humble opinion WAGAKKI BAND is along with ONMYOUZA the two best and most relevant Japanese hard rock/metal bands of the last twenty-five years.❤ Actually this video contains two songs, "Homura" and "Akatsuki no Ito" The flute is called a shakuhachi, the banjo-type instrument is a shamisen, the multi-stringed instrument is a koto and the drum set is a wadaiko or taiko.😆 This video corresponds to their first Japanese tour in 2015... the band despite its great success entered an indefinite hiatus in early 2024, mainly due to the birth of the first child of the couple formed by its leader Yuko Suzuhana (vocals) and Kiyoshi Ibukuro (koto). I think you might also like to their cover of Evanescence's song "Bring Me To Live" featuring Amy Lee: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npyUeKePgJx1gK8si=TAEuobStdNdW6X61

The three-string guitar like instrument is a shamisen. I think "sanshin" is the type of shamisen played in Okinawa (and perhaps Amami Islands). The flute is called a shakuhachi, which is made from a piece of bamboo. It's basically a section of bamboo with holes drilled in it, I think. Let me know if I am mistaken.

Wagakki Band mostly likes to use Japanese pentatonic scale. C D E G A (Key =C) It makes us (Japanese) feels nostalgic taste.

There are many great versions of Homura over the years here on youtube and it is hard to pick a favourite. But if I had to chose one who gets close to the epic 2015 performance I would recommend to listen to this version of Homura from 2024. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmLQhpqlapKLd7Msi=6Nv4xkK-KT1TJ9w5

You wouldn't happen to have the link for the Yuko sword dancing version, would you? Can never seem to find it.

@@elvesrus Sorry can't help you here. I know there are a few videos with Yukos Kenbu performances but can't remember seeing a Homura version with Yuko.
