I chucked up my first Wagga video years back of the green waste collection, now I’m excited to upload the domestic recycling instalment from the regional city. Back in 2017 I dropped by this location to catch the original SITA side loaders in action, and midmorning on the Wednesday I managed to document unit R1, which was 1 of 2 fulltime recycle trucks operating in Wagga between 2007 and 2018. Both were identical Superior Pak Raptors on Iveco ACCOs, being the sweet combo the company went for at the time, done up in the traditional green for the body and white on the cabs. Notably these side lift trucks were wholly owned and run through a subcontractor arrangement, no doubt a carryover system from the previous collection contract started with Garrett’s Waste Management. The fleet was 10 years into service by time I showed up, the state of the signage is an indication of this, but the gear was still out there being looked after by the owner drivers and getting the job done. I loved how perfect these 07 ACCOs sounded in Wagga too, the exact noise you expect to hear, very satisfying listening to it pierce the peacefulness here in Glenfield Park. I’m cheering I was able to get the recycle service in action, with a bit more duration to this video for those who want the extra entertainment, all much more fun than what JJ Richards operates now emptying modern wheelie bins. One reason I was especially keen for Wagga recycling was due to the existing bins, seeing that they were previously divided Brickwood 240Ls (when introduced in the late 90s), plus less than common in NSW as blue bodied and yellow lidded. Thanks to the operator for being all good with me following along - I was told one driver would be fine with videos and the other would probably tell me to fuck off, so glad I came across the right one! haha
