True story - as true as a WW2 story can be anyway - Hungarian Army units were retreating in JAN43 in the Eastern Front, Read Army on their tail. By the evening they reached some factory, warehouse complex whatever stocked with booze. There was some urge among the soldiers to consume the stuff, but an officer stopped them. They spent an uneventful night in one building. In the morning they found a lot of dead Russian soldiers lying around in the snow - they apparently had much less constraint about alcoholoic beverages and paid dearly.

@@iainwares6361 bakhmut is crucial. without it they cant start the assault on Krematorsk. in case that also krematorsk would fall the situation would be grave for ukraine. despite information from front, stating that bakhmut is literally hell, i hope, they keep it as long as possible and retreat only in if there would be no other way. (edit: war effort doesnt care about cities and their condition etc, its more important to provide logistical transport and without capturing bakhmut, its impossible for russia to capture the rest of that area, or to go forward. if bakhmut falls, they will be able to advance the front, by considerable amount)

The use of Western weapons has moved this war from manoeuvre encounters using fast moving motorised infantry and MBTs to an infantry war of attrition. This is why no one is mentioning Javelins and NLAWs these days. Russia isn’t using tanks. Doing so makes these modern anti armour weapons useless to Ukriane. Russia has recognised that it cannot bleed Ukraine dry of military hardware. It started the war with a clear advantage due to sheer numbers of tanks. Now NATO has moved to supply more tanks that advantage has gone. The Russian centre of gravity is now its superiority in infantry. It knows it can bleed Ukraine dry with battles of attrition. It has clearly warned NATO that if NATO boots arrive on the battlefield it will go nuclear. It therefore assumes NATO will not supply troops. Bakhmut is playing right into the war of attrition. It is killing vast numbers of Ukraine soldiers every hour. Russia is also losing soldiers - but it can afford to. Russia is a nation of 146 Million compared with Ukraine, a nation of 43 million. So Russia is now bleeding Ukraine dry on troops. The only solutions left to Ukraine are: Conscript women. Ask NATO for troops Ask for international volunteers All are problematic. Even using women Ukraine does not have numeric superiority. NATO will never put boots on the ground and risk nuclear war in Europe. The international turned out to be men with little to no military experience, most of whom returned home as soon as possible (watch them being interviewed to see what I mean) This will end when the EU, who’s economy is in tatters because of this war, forces Ukraine to agree to peace terms that hand Dombas to Russia
