In my HS band we had a brass section that could really kill it. We had no string section because we were too small of a school It's a shame. I was a very good Tuba player and I always wanted to play some Wagner.

While listening to this interpretation, I start realising what Woody Allen actually meant in his comment on Wagner's music...I'm kidding, of course, I consider all associations of this divine piece of music with military action deeply wrong, excepting when it is used to depict namely such an stereotyped abuse of Wagner (e.g., in Apocalypse Now). Magnificent, absolutely brilliant, with great respect to the score's spirit.

SSO is a fine orchestra. Hopefully the venue is now in a class comparable to the wondrous acoustics of Suntory Hall. Good luck finding someone as good as Tennstedt was to conduct it.

I am by no means any kind of an classical music expert, but that the brass section is on fire here, that I can hear. Fantastic performance. All other performances are lame compared to this.

British Orchestras have some of the best brass sections, i think its to do with the sheer numbers of brass and miltrary bands the uk had, and has

@@TheSorub Yes, I always wondered where all the fantastic rock musicians like Ian Paice, Rick Wakeman and many others have learned their craft. I guess in all these marching and military bands and in the church. Fantastic. Here in Germany all that was broken due to Hitlernazitime- very sad. I guess Tennstedt has make us proud in England, very good guy.
