Once again your tutorial has come through for me :) After knocking out the haptics upgrade, I really wanted to finish the VPX/FP setup and I was able to do so today. Learned a lot doing this, plus more because of the The Addam's Family table (table was sideways, backglass wasn't loading up - learned how to troubleshoot the script, etc)! I even modified that Joy2Key stock ALP config (from the FB group) because it was a little backwards in terms of coin and start functions, and not being able to navigate with the dpad or exit without reaching for a keyboard (maybe I can share this file for your other viewers?) I'm real glad I didn't waste money on those "prebuilt" HDD loaded with thousands of tables. I never would have learned anything, and probably would have been frustrated. Well anyway, there is one main thing I'm still trying to figure out: how to setup VPX for separate audio through the 3.5mm audio jack, and HDMI? I must have overlooked something in VPX, could you point me in the right direction? Thanks again!

Awesome to hear, happy the guides/videos were helpful to you! For the haptics in VPX, please see Option 1 here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp-haptics/#Visual_Pinball_X . @@WagnersTechTalk wow - just wow! The separation is amazing, I had no idea what kind of transformation BSA Haptics Kit would do for the ALP 😳 Hearing the coin drop for the first time was mind-blowing, I love it! Getting sucked into playing the tables a new way it's easy to forget you're looking at a digital screen! Which reminds me, have you gone into Windows and made display adjustments to the ALP playfield display? I found making the couple of changes in Windows improved things like gamma and color temperature. I totally recommend checking it out, and for anyone else, who hasn't already! I'll be sure to upload my J2K file later. Thanks again - I didn't see a "buy me a coffee" anywhere on your site. You definitely deserve it 👍

@@WagnersTechTalk also I remember you asking me on Reddit if there was a difference between playing with just BSA's Haptics Kit solo versus BSA + Cleveland Software's solenoids. The answer is a resounding yes! It completes the whole package for the ALP, everyone should look into it.
@WagnersTechTalk2 жыл бұрын
Happy that you're enjoying the BSA Haptics kit, yeah it makes an amazing difference and it's so hard to try to capture that in a video. I do this stuff as a hobby and to help others, not to make money. I do have affiliate links on my website, whenever someone uses one of those links to buy something (even if it's not one of the items I recommend) I get a small kickback from that. It's what helps me pay for some of the stuff I show on the channel. I just don't feel right adding a buy me a coffee link, thought about it but don't want anyone to feel obligated to do so. I've had several companies ask to put their ads on my site, I don't do that either. The few that I have are companies I know and trust - I asked them if I could link to their sites, not the other way around and do that to support their work.

Hi there, is there a reason I couldn’t us other emulators on my PC and play them through the ALP? I suppose I’d have to adjust the monitor rotation to 0 instead of 90 degrees. But I’m thinking I could do that and run emulators while still using the ALP joystick setup to control. Does that make sense?

Hey Jon on the Joy2Key PUP profile how could i add like the menu button or start button as Magna Save Buttons on VPX for the ALP control deck??

Hi Dave, it's been awhile since I worked on the profile but in-general, after you launch j2k you'll want to find the button id. To do that, go to Settings -> Configure Joysticks and click the 'Configure Game Controller Property' button. Make sure the ALP is connected to the PC, select the controller and click 'Properties'. Press the button and it will light up, remember the associated number. Then in the main j2k UI find the number and click the 'Edit button assignment', then assign the button as-needed to emulate the key presses. You can double-click on some of the others in the profile to get an idea of how they're setup as examples. Hope this helps!

If FX3 works with the VIBS board and showing the image on the backglass, PinUP Popper should as well. @WagnersTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
Was it working fine without opening the back and then just stopped, or were you doing something on the backglass when it went out? If you have a VIBS board installed, you can take that out of the loop and see if the display comes back on. Of course, before swapping cables power off the machine and unplug it. This would isolate the issue down to the VIBS (potentially). If no VIBS in the loop and it was working, you could re-seat the cable at the main board and monitor to be sure it didn't come loose. I'd recommend going here and to the AtGames support page and create a support ticket. wagnerstechtalk.com/alp/#Resources If either the monitor or VIBS has gone out, going to need to notify them first anyways so might as well get the ball rolling there.

I do try to respond to most of the comments I get, I enjoy the conversations. I know most go the route of Patreon and charge for it, but I prefer to just be up-front, answer what I can and I also learn in the process. Hope to hear back from you when your machine arrives!

@@WagnersTechTalk Hey Jon. Machine arrived from Sam's and, so far, I'm very pleased with it. I'm feeling my way around it, but I'll get there. I was very concerned about how it would operate out of the box because of all the nightmares I've read. No problems at all.....not even the sound problems everybody is coming up with. The VIBS card arrived today and the control panel is supposed to be here tomorrow but still waiting on some other parts. Not in any hurry. I have two questions, I've read that you some people got Zaccaria Vol 1-4 code to redeem free with the table. Did you? Also, any suggestions about a better sound system for it like maybe the Logitec 5.1 system? Thanks again for all the help.
@WagnersTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
@@WVPixelGuy Awesome Bruce, thank you for letting me know your experiences with the ALP! When I received my machine in late March from Sam's Club, AtGames wasn't providing Zac vol 1-4 at the time. So, those weren't included with my purchase. However, after you created your ArcadeNet account AtGames/Sam's should be automatically sending a code to your Digital Locker (in Settings). There, you should be able to redeem the code and install those volumes. When you do, you're really going to love those tables! Regarding a better sound system, I'm not much help in that area at the moment. However, do check out the KZbin channel Kong's-R-Us. Bee Kong has created a number of great videos and tutorials about modding his ALP, that would be my recommendation to start. So happy to hear it was a great experience for you so far, hope I can be more helpful in the future.

Awesome video! I did the install and it works fine for Future Pinball but the controls don't work correctly for VPX! Used your recommended Joy2key file but I'm having no luck! Nudge and left flipper works, but no response from the right flipper. Odd that it works for Future Pinball but not VPX. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thank you and thank you for watching! I updated to the very latest firmware (from 9/2), using the JoyToKey profile shown here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpbi/#Arcade_Control_Panel_Profile and verified that VPX, FP and FX3 all played fine within the PinUP Popper launcher. Not sure why it would be any different for you unless there were any changes to the button mapping I'm not aware of. Alternatively, you can go into JoyToKey and re-map the buttons that aren't working for you and you should be good to go then.

FACT: installing the vibs itself does not void your warranty HOWEVER modifying the cabinet in any way shape or form i.e drilling holes for the button or hdmi cord in the back etc DOES void the warranty keep this in mind if you decide to do this as it can come with consequences

My back glass insists on displaying on the bottom third of the screen. I can manually pull it up but even then the start menu is still in the way at the bottom

Hello, and thank you for all your videos! I had a two screen setup (and I had that working fine) until I got a new backglass from arcade mod up. Now I have three screens (playfield, backglass, and a 10.1 inch DMD). I'm having a devil of a time setting them all up properly. The playfield looks fine but the backglass "bleeds over" onto the dmd below it. I have run several utilities and can't get my fixes to stay. I get them resized perfectly and carefully and they just go back to the backglass stretching over into the dmd. When I first installed pinup popper it asks whether it's a two or three screen setup. I did the two screen as that's what I had at that time. Should I do a fresh install? If not, what can I do?
@WagnersTechTalk Жыл бұрын
I only have two displays connected to my ALP, so I don't have the exact settings for a 3-display setup. However, you'll want to arrange (in Windows) the displays left-right 1-Playfield, 2-backglass & 3 DMD. Then move the windows around during the initial setup as a 3-display arrangement.

It would most likely run just fine. See the grey box at this link: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp-mod1/#Chapter_5_PC_Requirements . There you'll see a "Click here" link that will allow you to enter the specs of your laptop and see what type of performance to expect.

@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks a lot for the link it seems my laptop is all in the green so will be fine. I'm in UK so getting ripped off on the prices compared to you guys over there but i bought myself a legends ultimate 300 arcade machine, which was delivered a couple of days ago, and i'm having a blast reliving my youth running coinopsx after watching your videos on how to do it all. The next step is to get the ATGames pinball machine and vibs board so i can play all these amazing tables I keep seeing being played on it using future and visual pinball.

Do the nudge/accelerometer functions work with this? My setup is not working, poor plunger control and no nudge/accelerometer. I am thinking it may be the be the joy to key setup (without the arcade control panel). Not sure where to set it up at this point. Still waiting on VIBS and arcade control panel to ship so its still a work in progress. Tables I have installed so far are amazing other than that.
@WagnersTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew, the JoyToKey profile I provide does assume you're using the Arcade Control Panel as there are some additional buttons needed to start a game, insert credits, etc. The hardware nudge buttons should work on VPX/FP/FX3, however. For FX3, please see the portion where you'll need to map the Z and / keys for nudge to work in FX3: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpbi/#JoyToKey_Setup If you have trouble with how the plunger is mapped, use the forward nudge to launch the ball (I've run into this on some tables as well such as AC/DC). AtGames has recently provided accelerometer support over OTG but I've honestly not yet had time to investigate that yet. Once I do, it will wind up on the guide pages for FX3/Baller Installer.

hey thanx for all you do. your vids rock! question, if i am doing the pinup popper install do i still need the cab code for fx3? i already have fx3 installed on my pc and as soon as i get my vibs board will be following the pinup popper install.
@WagnersTechTalk2 жыл бұрын
Thank you brother! You'll only need the cab code for FX3 if/when you want to play FX3 games in cabinet mode. If you're going to be running VPX/FP tables only, you won't need the code for that. But, good idea if you plan to play FX3 soon, to go ahead and request the code. May take a few days to receive it.

I'm kinda knew to this Visual Pinball when adding a pinball table when adding a VPX tables how do you know if you need Rom files or not . cuz i have added VPX tables before and it didn't need Rom files . i think it would make it so much easier if all files are included with a table file and not search what files you still need . just wondering
@WagnersTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
Not all tables will need roms, you're correct. Depending on where you downloaded the table, the author may provide additional information about it and what is needed. In this video, when I imported the VPX metadata you can see the rom section was populated with one of the rom files that was needed.
@WVPixelGuy3 жыл бұрын
David, not sure if you figured this out or not, but if you don't have a rom for the table, it will let you know it needs it and give you the name of the rom you need. Some do, some don't. None of the Future Pinball tables need roms.

Appreciate the thorough tutorial. Is it possible to set this up to play Vertical on AtGames Legends pinball with no backglass (still waiting on mine). Baller Installer senses it as one monitor, so wants to go into desktop mode which rotates it sideways. If I rotate in the screen setup of baller installer, it looks ok, so I save settings, but once I launch baller installer, it turns it again (putting it in landscape mode so it's sideways). Instructions said to put Windows Display in landscape mode, so I figure it should work somehow, I just can't figure it out. Not a big deal if you don't know off hand. I have FX3 set up so I can keep playing that, just figured I'd ask in case it's just something I'm missing. Thanks again for the great videos!
@WagnersTechTalk3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it's possible, but may take a bit of tweaking (I only set it up with the VIBS board+backglass myself). Make sure that when you launch OTG you have it set like this: wagnerstechtalk.com/alppcsetup/#Switch_HDMI_Input I'm starting to think that I may need to integrate this section directly into the PUPBI Guide, I've had a few recent questions about it and think it may not be as obvious as it should be. See if that helps and please let me know the results.
@blain24843 жыл бұрын
@@WagnersTechTalk I appreciate the quick response as always. I double checked the OTG settings and it was correct. No matter how I tried to tweak the settings in desktop mode, it kept rotating the playfield (no rotation in pinup popper settings and 270 rotation in pinup popper settings. Then I reinstalled the baller installer and this time I went with setting A instead of Desktop, even though I don't have the backglass, and now it is coming in full screen. Pinup popper settings were left at no rotation. This will get me going now. Thanks again!

Dear Wagner, I followed your instructions and now I have an ALP in OTG Uber-Mode with hundreds of hours put into setting up my vpx library, and a dedicated dmd screen! I love it!!! Thank you so much! But as such projects are never finished, I have a question for you: how do I split the backbox and mechanical sounds to be played through different devices? I am thinking of using the alp speakers for the playfield sounds (so the haptics work), and use a separate speaker in the topper for backglass sounds. Apparently vpx can do that, but I can’t:( Do you know the way? Greetings from Germany Al
@WagnersTechTalk Жыл бұрын
Awesome AL, happy the guides were helpful to you Sir! Regarding the sound separation, I'm using the BuyStuffArcades haptics kit, the only such kit that I'm personally familiar with. There is a dedicated guide for it here (scroll to the top if you want the video for it): wagnerstechtalk.com/alp-haptics/#Visual_Pinball_X but this section has info. on what was done to setup the separation in VPX. Hope that helps you out!

Sorry, I'm a little confused. If VPX wants me to leave my monitors in landscape mode, do I have to switch them back and forth to run FX3 from Steam? I tried running FX3 in landscape and even changing the orientation in cabinet mode, everything was wonky. I thought I saw where you were now recommending to set up FX3 with the monitors in landscape mode but I can't seem to get them to work that way. Referring to the main playfield monitor, that is. What am I doing wrong? Thank you!
@WagnersTechTalk2 жыл бұрын

@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you for the reply. Ya, those are the settings I'm using already but I have to put the playfield(main) monitor into Portrait mode from my PC display settings or it stays in landscape. I can go into the cabinet settings and change the orientation there and it will rotate into Portrait mode but the whole thing is shifted off to one side and the graphics are distorted. Maybe I'll try setting the degree to 180 or 270 on the channel screen and see if that does anything. I'll just have to mess around with it some more. Thanks again.
@WagnersTechTalk2 жыл бұрын
Interesting, when you set it for Degree 90, it should have rotated from Landscape to Portrait mode. I've not seen that not work.
@johnsland87862 жыл бұрын
@@WagnersTechTalk Sorry, I don't want to clog up your comments, just one last question for clarity... The monitor in the cabinet is mounted in Portrait position. So, if my display settings are landscape with Degree 0, shouldn't the display be full size and sideways where I have to stand to the side to see it straight? My display only shows that way with landscape and Degree 90. Landscape with Degree 0 has a small screen displayed in landscape in the middle of the main monitor. It's almost as if the Degree setting is changing the view without actually changing the orientation, if that makes sense? The ONLY way my games display correctly is display settings main monitor Portrait mode and Degree 90. Could this be a defect with the board in the cabinet? Or an issue with the main display? Any idea where I could go to discuss this further, maybe with pictures? Thanks again for your replies, I appreciate the help.

@@johnsland8786 Make sure your monitors are lined up exactly like shown here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpbi/#Install_PinUP_Popper_Baller_Installer If you have one other the other slightly above or below the other, things aren't going to look right.
