Great tutorial! Worked first time with a few rewinds on my part. My Pi5 rocks KZbin, multiple windows and reboots. 512 NVME from Raspberry Pi. Great hardware and project support.

Nice video. I have not heard about that extender for the Cannakit case. Could you make a follow up video with what the thermals are like? That’s something I’d really like to know with the board not being too far up above the heat sink and fan.

Great job on the video! You installed the M.2 HAT over the active cooling fan, does this affect cooling by blocking airflow?
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 2 ай бұрын
Thank you Sir! It doesn't obstruct the airflow too much, a slight 2-3 degree difference.

Thanks for the clear video! Question - How do we use the gpio pins after installing the hat? What kind of connectors are needed and what pins are available for use after installing the hat?
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 5 ай бұрын
I've not tested that since I don't have a 4-pin male cable handy. It "should" be usable as the pins pass through into the gpio but the opposite side (the side facing up) is now a female connector.
@realjackofall
@realjackofall 4 ай бұрын
@@WagnersTechTalk so I bought the hat and added an nvme storage module. The top of the gpio is not exactly a female now. I wasn't able to stick in a male jumper wire I use with a breadboard. I was however able to verify that the gpio pin works by holding/touching the jumper wire against the top. But it's a bummer that I can't affix a jumper wire anymore with the hat!

the pi will boot from the nvme drive if you simply remove the sd card; no need for the step where you changed the boot order
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 6 ай бұрын
Yes, thank you for your feedback! I wanted to show where that could be specifically set. Some may leave the microSD card in the slot and wonder why the Pi 5 isn't booting from the NVMe. This way, it will always boot from the NVMe drive.

what was the software used to show the results of the two speed tests? Is it in the repos? Great video; I just setup my rpi5 to boot from nvme.

I have a question 🙋‍♂️ why was the active cooler used instead of the Mega heat sink with a fan? I would also like to know if there’s any functional difference? I see the active cooler retails for $5 and the Mega heat sink retails for 12

How effective is the active cooler with the hat above it? does it block airflow? Thanks
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 4 ай бұрын
It works and slightly obstructs the airflow. That is, temps aren't as good as without the Hat.

I'm wondering if it is compatible with Waveshare PoE HAT (F)? I'm looking into making RPi5 + PoE + NVMe setup. I particulary like Pimoroni NVMe Base for Raspberry Pi 5, however it's bit of a thick assembly, I would like it to be a bit more compact.
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 5 ай бұрын
I've not personally tested the Waveshare PoE HAT + M.2 HAT + NVMe configuration. I can't honestly say, but there is a bit of extra room in the CanaKit case (with the extender added), which may support both being installed. But I don't know for sure.

A couple things that may help: * Power-off the Pi 5. Make sure the microHDMI to HDMI cable is connected to the port nearest the USB-C power cable. * Make sure that the image for the operating system has been written to the microSD card (i.e. Pi Desktop, Ubuntu, etc.) * Power-on connected display, then the Pi 5. If you aren't seeing any video signal, a few things to try: * Check the HDMI Video source on your TV/Monitor to make sure it's set/working properly. * Use a different microHDMI to HDMI cable. I've received at least one bad cable over the years, if you have a 2nd, try it. * Ensure that you see the green LED on the Pi 5 indicating it's powering on and booting (should flash when reading from the microSD card). If not, you may have a defective Pi 5 and reach out to the seller for a replacement. The above should help.

Do I need to use GPIO header 40 pin? On other videos they didn´t use it. Is it better with GPIO header? Thx
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 2 ай бұрын
If you're going to use the Active Cooler/heat sinks (recommended), you'll need the extra clearance provided by the GPIO header/extender.

I want to run this pi setup for at least 10 hours of grid , by using a powerbank. Is that possible?
@WagnersTechTalk
@WagnersTechTalk 6 ай бұрын
I assume you mean off-grid. If so, then you may want to try adding a monitor like this one (or similar): amzn.to/4fohh0O while running the software you plan to run. Then calculate the power draw for 10 hours to find a power bank that will support it. Exactly the size you'll need will be based on average usage requirements and the solar array that will recharge the battery. Just my general thinking, I've not personally done this before but where I'd start.
