WAIANAE STRONG

This video is part of the Youth Video Project. This semester long project paired Youth from Waianae High School's Searider Productions program with mentors from UH West Oahu's Academy of Creative Media explored issues of culture, identity and place resulting in 3 student produced videos. "Waianae Strong" shares local pride and a peek into Waianae's strengths and bountiful community bonds.

I live in SoCal now but I’m proud to say I was raised in the Waianae/Makaha area. I miss surfing Makaha beach and Yok’s, it was a great place to grow up as a kid. Aloha aina.

I have never been to Waianae. The closest I got was when I took a train ride from Aala Park to Nanakuli Beach for a picnic back in the Forties. I was born and raised in Hawaii, but left in 1953.
