He did not take piano lessons very long. He found that he couldn’t read the notes fast enuf and began to play only by ear. However you can hear his classical influence. He seemed to remember the theory that he learned. He composed mostly on the piano.

While Freddie was painting the fingernails of his left hand black, Brian was painting the fingernails of his left hand white. This was even before the release of Queen II (the Black and White album). Brian claimed Freddie played the piano like Roger played the drums - hard and fast with fantastic rhythm! That suit is Freddie's "mercury suit". Mercury was the Roman god of speed, commerce, and communication, often seen with winged sandals. As the chief messenger of the gods, Mercury controlled the flow of information.

Both Freddie and Brian took piano lessons when they were children. Both of them reached grade 5, which is in the intermediate range, before quitting piano lessons. A great example that highlights their piano skills is their 1981 live performance of Save Me in Montreal. Brian starts out on the piano, notice his guitar in his lap, and then Freddie jumps on the piano when it was time for Brian’s guitar part/solo.

Mercury was The Wigged Messenger. Hence the little wings on his sleeves. Also, the black fingernails represent. The black side of the Queen 2 album. Which were fantasy themed stories. Written by Fred. Notice, one of Brian's hands has white painted fingernails. This represents songs written by him. AKA, Side white. Except for one song written / sung by Roger.

Beautiful song! They have so many though, might want to try Teo Toriatte. A hidden song that does not get much love. The song was written for their Japanese fans, even a couple lines sung in Japanese. As below, "March of the Black Queen is a must!

waiting until the piano/guitar duet - some of my very favorite of Brian's work. Brian just makes his guitar soar to the heavens. From past interviews, Freddie had no vocal training, but did have classical piano courses in boarding school from age 8ish to age 11. That's not really a very long time! He possessed a ton of natural talent.

I just saw Queen +Adam over the weekend in Los Angeles!! Sir Brian May was everything I had imagined & more! This beautiful composition was written by May inspired by a crush he had on a girl in his college Biology class! Absolutely phenomenal performance from these legends, I actually attended this concert at Hammersmith Oden United Kingdom 🇬🇧 this was my first introduction to Queen and I’ve never looked back and have attended many Queen live concerts, Including Queens Legendary LiveAid performance in 1985 also Queen Magic Tour which brought them back Wembley Stadium in 1986 , and again in 1986 an extra Live concert at Knebworth Park UK 🇬🇧 which was Freddie’s very last live performance ever, but The band carried on in the studio until Freddie unfortunately too unwell to sing anymore, knebworth Park the crowd was estimated to be between 120 thousand to 150 thousand people, great reaction thanks 🙏

This is actually one of my absolute favorites from Queen, and the studio version is almost boring in comparison to the Hammersmith Odeon. I haven't seen your reaction yet but just wanted to say how excited I am to watch David hear & see it for the very first time. Freddie personally thought his piano skills were intermediate at best but most would disagree highly. When the camera zooms in on his fingers hitting those keys one has to wonder how it's even possible to he able to sing and play piano at the same time! Then there's Roger who beats on those drums and sings too. Brian, strumming the Red Special better than an angel strumming a harp. And John.. not blessed with a voice but who made up for it in his songwriting and bass skills. Just absolute perfection here!

This is a great one, but flip the record over to "Side Black" and you get, as Sir Brian says, the precursor to "Bohemian Rhapsody", "March of the Black Queen/Funny How Love Is". Unfortunately there isn't a live version of them and they should be listened to together as that's how they play out on the record or you lose something.

BTW… Virginia Rose is ADORABLE 💕 You guys are to dogs as my hubby/I are to cats… My husband CLAIMS that, at one point, we were feeding 15 cats (We lived in a neighborhood where several had been abandoned). I’ve rescued so many, I’ve lost count! (Just last wknd, our grocery list said: “Bag of cat food for the two cats living under our back deck”… which is how I broke the news to Hubby of new arrivals😹) Our oldest was 18 yrs old, as well. (I’m allergic to dogs, tho😳)

Thank you! Sadly, Virginia passed 2 days after we recorded that video. We're still heartbroken, but grateful that we had more time with her than we expected, as she was already a senior (10 years), when we adopted her. I grew up on a horse farm and have always loved animals. At one time on the farm, we had 14 barn cats! Our neighbor farmer had a cat that liked to visit ours and kept a lineage going. Oy. Lots of cross-eyed polydactyl kitties! I still loved them all! These days, we have plenty of different types of pets, but my favorite is my senior dogs. Someday, I'm going to have a senior sanctuary. ❤️ I love that you love furbabies, too!

@@Savage-Reactions Hey, I’m so SORRY to hear you lost Virginia… That’s the problem with having “pet children”, esp older ones. (In our household, I’m the one who always has to deal with the “tough decisions” that come along with that… Hubby’s too much of a softy.)

Fact re. Freddie’s piano playing: He told an interviewer that he stopped taking piano lessons (at the age of 12, I believe? I think he took piano from ages 8 to 12) …BECAUSE, in his own words, “I couldn’t really read sheet music “!😳 The interviewer sat speechless for a moment, then said… “Sooo, you have NO trouble writing multiple harmonies,” (as we all know he’s famous for) … “but you can’t really read sheet music?”😂 Freddie did always “downplay” his piano skills… but his classmates said that he could hear ANY song just once, and then play it completely on the piano. Fred’s musical peers also all said that they’d never seen another musician play the same way he did, except for the famous pianist Liberace. And in the BoRhap movie, they showed how he taught himself to play UPSIDE DOWN, so he could use a piano keyboard as his bed’s headboard and play upside down in the middle of the night! (Brian also alluded to the “sheet music” thing, when he mentioned that - when Fred wrote all the guitar parts for “Princes Of The Universe” - Brian then had to “transcribe” it into sheet music that other guitarists could use. Brian said “It was an interesting experience.”😅)
